Second, I have a slight hum but only when no program (audio) is present and i think it has something to do with ground.
Would the TH 2 still auto tune if i added extra ground from the chassis to a ground screw or ground rod outside?
My range is poor as i have stated in a previous post, but i have it plugged into a surge protector. I think the TH 2 did slightly better when i tested it on the kitchen table plugged directly into a outlet.
Most if not all the outlets in this home have a flat plate that snaps into place so there are no screws on the outlet covers to tap into.
Poor ground as we all know affects range in the bcb, if i can ground this unit i feel the range could be increased slightly.
Another thing:
My trailer has a peaked roof instead of the flat or slightly rounded off roof. So if you are standing inside the home you would look up and see the inside of the peeked roof.
Anyway the antenna cannot be straight up and down (vertical).
It is running up the wall then across the ceiling so it is in a “L” shape.
Not the ideal setup. I have not tried the antenna running horizontal along the wall. Another option i have is moving my desk closer to the window and dropping the wire out the window, although this would only get 8 ‘ of the antenna out the window it would have to be better than having the antenna inside a tin can.
I am just thinking of ways to getting my signal out of the home using what i have at hand. I still plan on using some kind of vertical antenna outside later.
Could that be a ground loop with the audio output device?
Could your hum be caused by the audio chain instead of the RF out? THat almost sounds like what we used to get when we didn’t ground the turntable to the preamp 🙂
Either a common ground for the audio (might not be a good idea with today’s electronics) or an isolation transformer?
Sounded like AC hum
Like when you have a bad capacitor.
However, that seems to have fixed itself after i unplugged the transmitter and plugged it back in.
It started the CAL process but this time it took longer and now the audio is much louder and best of all no hum. I havent checked the range yet so I have no idea if it improved or not.
Modulation is louder, stronger and there seems to be better bass response than what i noted before re-cal. the TH.
Also the TH is on 1700 khz now and will probably stay there for good.
TH II hum
The TH II is prone to ground loop hum. When I run my TH II, I use an 1:1 isolation transformer in the audio circuit. That eliminates the hum.
