I am experimenting with a new type of format.
I am experimenting with a new type of format.
A mix of Independent music and Educational Materials from various podcast websites. Some of the material I have been playing for several years now includes: EarthSky.org podcasts,Planetary Society podcasts, Pirates Week, Shortwave Report w/dan roberts, Blair On Air is recent and of course even some old stuff dug up from the internet and used with permission by the creators.
Music ranges from Celtic Irish/Scottish, Rock,Folk, New Age, and well i could go on and on but i won’t because the list would go on forever.
I am also trying to get local artists from Kentucky to add their music to the mix as well, so far that has been slow going.
At any rate, i think i almost have a public radio feel to the station but without the stuffiness found on most public radio stations.
It ain’t NPR lol
To listen online at 64 kbps stereo

or visit www.rock957.net
as for Rock 95.7 fm, well i am not sure just yet. That frequency has been a headache since day 1. Interference form tropo and high powered stations sharing the channel have been a concern.
We will have to see how that pans out in the future.
Enjoy!

Joining Level
Welcome I.P.R. 90.1 with what sounds like a great new brand for part 15 radio. And I praise you for bringing a station for the actual public as opposed to some “other” public as with npr.
And so proud am I to be seen on your schedule that I will start wearing ties and suits to work.
Public stations always invite contributions at various “levels,” like the “coffee mug level” and the “tote bag level,” so I am coming in at the “free level.”
I gave your station a listen
I gave your station a listen for a bit, and visited your website, but wasn’t very successful in browsing it. I guess your still working on it (as I am mine), but I did enjoy some of the outside links provided.. that mysterious stuff is right up my alley of interest.
I particularly liked your NPR play with the IPR logo.
Best of luck to you and welcome to the forum
Rock 95.7 was fun but
This public radio gig is something totally different.
Since there was already a few rock stations in the area and the frequency i was operating on was plagued with tropo and splash over i decided to hang up the Rock format and try my hand at a public radio station for the general public, the average Joe or Jane. It’s community radio that seems to be evolving into something i never expected.
I am even considering doing some live shows even if the noise level in my house is louder than me lol. (remember i have 6 kids)
My format is kind of modeled after a LPFM station in Montana which plays a lot of Americana, Folk music and other genres not usually aired on commercial radio. All at the same time keeping it all down to earth. I hope this station will catch a few ears and get some listeners who appreciate real music and a hometown personal feeling atmosphere.
The word is out that i am looking for music from independent or unsigned bands/artist and it is slowly gaining momentum.
I just hope with our move to a new location in May that we keep any listeners we may have via our online stream.
So there it is, Rock 95.7 fm is out and Independent Public Radio 90.1 fm is in.
Rich, thanks for noticing the logo, that’s what i was going for lol.
Carl, I appreciate fine programming and your show Blair On Air deserves the airtime.
