A few members enjoyed hearing some of my “Blare OnAir” programs on part 15 topics, and I’ve just found three shows from 2007 that go into depth about the History of TV Channel 14, part of a discussion of the TV Genie, a low power UHF transmitter from years past.
Back then I called the show “Adventures in the 3rd Dementia.”
To hear them on demand select KDX3 at this link
http://kdxradio.com/demand.html
They are also available as downloadable mp3 files
http://kdxradio.com/archive.html
The program dates are Oct. 3, 4 and 6, 2007 (3 – files)

Thanks for the heads up Carl.
Thanks for the heads up Carl. Will be sure to check them out.
Experimental TV “Broadcasting” By Guys Like Us
Actually, it isn’t really broadcasting, but
it is transmitting for experimental
purposes.
There are ham radio operators using
a section of the 420 – 450 MHz (?)
amateur radio band for NTSC transmission.
I can’t remember the exact frequencies, but
they selected them in an interesting way.
It turns out, one of the most popular “TV Channels”
in that band can be received by any NTSC TV
made in the last few decades. If you take that
TV set, and select cable channel 58, and put
a receiving antenna on the set (instead of a
cable feed) you can then pick up the ham
radio transmissions. To say it another way,
that part of the 450 MHz ham band is the
same spectrum as cable channel 58.
I have a friend who used to watch the local
amateur TV repeater on his home TV on
cable 58. He was lucky then. There were
hams experimenting with NTSC TV in that
part of the spectrum and he was near enough
to the repeater to be able to watch it with his
home TV and roof antenna.
I always wanted to have a radio controlled car
that transmitted an NTSC picture of where it
was going. The idea is that you could drive
the car by remote control and not have to be
there. You would just watch the TV picture
and operate the car. You could be in your
house and the car could be in your yard or
whatever. This is definitely a geek project.
And using licensed ham radio frequencies,
theoretically, you could be maybe a few miles
from the car and still drive it, if you had the
proper hardware. (And if nobody picked up
the car and whacked it with a shovel or
something.)
Carl, since you have mentioned your channel
14 TV Genie, it made me think of this.
Best Wishes,

Good Stories
Bruce those kind of stories about all the things that happen with all the channels and everything are endlessly fun to hear.
I think you know that you are invited back for Part 2 of our radio chat, when things are calm for you, and the toy car is something we must discuss. Let’s see…. where could we drive that car today?
I would like to hang a cam on a mini hot air radio controlled Zepplin and buzz through the tree tops.
Oh Yeah, I Definately Want To Do Part Two
Carl, I really do want to be
on the low power hour again.
I would also just like to have
sort of a general discussion
with you on the phone about the
fun stuff we can talk about.
Hope to hook up with you in the
not too distant future.

Something for Free
A few days ago the Blare OnAir Lite program was resumed in a Series II, free for Part 15 radio stations.
Blare OnAir Lite is 10-minutes of fame intended as a time-filler for stations that prefer to fill dead air.
Topics covered include anything that comes into Carl Blare’s head, including part 15 radio topics, with a tendency never to actually finish talking about one thing before something else comes up.
If you let me know I can list you as an Affiliate, which might impress wives, neighbors and prospective sponsers.
Series I remains available.
