Not What It Seems
So..basically Mouser is going to do what Rat Shack did, and start selling pre made from overseas junk and do away with individual components..slowly and steadily over time.
YAY! :/
How many places does it take to sell a cell phone?
The world..they never know.

A Different Take
My reading of the article is that Mouser is putting together a design resource for engineers and of course the goal is to increase their business but this has been done for as long as I have been in engineering by various manufacturers and suppliers. It didn’t appear to me that this necessarily includes selling finished products to a retail market.
An established way to get engineers to specify components is education by way of Application Notes, Design Kits, and product samples. Circuits which previously required ground up design are now available as modules which allow the engineers and manufacturers to integrate functions into products without reinventing the wheel. One of the earliest such modules is power supplies and this trend now extends to complex functions such as part 15 radio modules. In a sense these modules are now components which free the designers from R&D to focus on other design aspects and free the manufacturers from tooling for production.
Mouser may sell cell phones in the future but for now this is just a good business decision which will probably be appreciated by design engineers.
