i had an idea. how about a maglev inside a vacuum tunnel.
it would run on super conducting magnets so no track friction and in a vacuum tunnel there would be very little to no air friction.

my guess is it could reach 1k+ mph and move across the usa in a very short time.
it could have stops in major cities across usa.
like NYC, DC, Denver, Chicago, LA, etc.
maybe multiple strategically placed transportation lines.
maybe even a transcontinental maglev system.
this is an idea i have had since the 90’s

Never Happen
Maglev trains have been talked about and talked about and talked about since the 70’s and the only country in the world that actually started building them and using them is Japan.
Meanwhile, the US piddles and pokes around talking and talking and talking about it while tossing out more excuses not to do it than excuses to do it.
Besides that, at a certain speed, land travel is simply out of the question and it’s time to put on a set of wings or better yet, and even better than a maglev train, how about those anti-grav cars we were promised back in the 50’s?

I would love to have a maglev bed.
I believe that disconnection from the earth through levitation would be better than the pseudo-scientific mattresses that “memorize” elbows and ear-lobes.
A maglev bed could slowly turn and move about, something that seems cool for reasons difficult to express.
Maybe a hundred loudspeaker magnets could be glued to the underside of a bed and we might have an invention.
On the Vacuum Tube Train, I read the item linked by kc8gpd and this one sentence sort of deflates any hope for now:

I was incredulated to see the potential speeds as 5,000 to 6,000 miles-per-hour. If the tunnel lost its vacuum all of a sudden, the whole thing would become the world’s flattest pancake.
Impractical
For starters, maintaining a vacuum in such long tunnels would be impossible, much less maintain the integrity of the tube tunnels..ie vacuum seals and weather elements etc.
Besides that, at 5,000 mph I would rather be in the air or in space rather than 2 inches off the ground. Heaven forbid there be a power glitch on those levitating magnets!
