Made It To 2012

January 1, 2012 by Carl Blare

If you are reading this note you have made it to 2012. Welcome. Sorry we all forgot to have up to date calendars. I found a printable 1-page 2012 calendar on the internet which will get things started:

http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/?year=2012

With KDX set to run automatically all night, we retired New Years Eve at 11 PM Central Time U.S. but at midnight heard an unusually widespread and intensive burst of fireworks and explosions that went on for an amazingly long time. I wish we’d recorded it, but then again, what for?

At 3 AM an intense wind storm started howling at about 44 MPH and tree branches were heard thumping down all around. There is a giant oak tree standing over the KDX building, so we stood vigil near an escape door in case the entire tree crushed the building.

All this time the KDX internet connection remained steady but we wondered whether to shut down for equipment safety.

When the sun came up at 7 AM we decided that whatever hadn’t fallen by now probably wouldn’t fall this year, so we returned to dreamland.

The wind is still coming and going but is less forceful.

Please report the year opening status at your part 15 station…(?)

    Nothing Special
Nothing out of the ordinary. Well I ran a 1khz test tone at midnight for about 5 seconds..then back to regular program.

I wanted to verify balance and levels from the raw source while recalibrating the modulation monitors and processors.

Fortunately everything was within a 1 percent tolerance from the previous year’s calibration.

So everything is set for another year…barring any unfortunate and unexpected predicted 2012 apocalypses.

      Status Quo
      High winds and rain here…

All antennas still intact; TH ATU, 5/8 wave FM, End Fed 20 mtr Dipole, Horizontal Tri-Band Dipole. Oh yeah, TV antenna.

Stations remained on-air thru out the night. Internet Streams maintained.

I made one CW contact on 40 meters for Straight Key Night just so I could say I did.

Took down all outside Christmas decorations before blizzard hits.

Replaced Mayan Calendar with new as it runs out this year.
