Low Power Hour No. 28

April 15, 2012 by Carl Blare

Low Power Hour No. 28 is now posted on the new upload page, available to affiliate stations and special radio friends.

Low Power Hour No. 28 is now posted on the new upload page, available to affiliate stations and special radio friends.

There is a change and this is the formal announcement, so you will understand.

The Low Power Hour is no longer openly available to the world public, but is intended for low power radio stations and those seriously interested in low power radio.

Some of the affiliated stations already know, but I am only a staff of one and haven’t contacted everybody.

To request access to the programs write an e-mail to
[email protected]

I will send the private link for downloading the program to qualifying applicants (low power stations and select others). I reserve the right to deny access to parties not clearly attached to the low power interest.

The Low Power Hour web pages that include pictures and related links remain posted at kdxradio.com

Program No. 28 was assembled on the night of Friday, April 13, during a thunderstorm, and was so full of features that it will be continued in No. 29, which will go into production right away.

Topics include long wave, induction, and the title is “RF Programs”, bringing your attention to free radio programs on RF (radio frequency) subjects.

The program reflects the same values as part15.us, and seeks to promote interest in part 15 broadcasting.

I’ve missed the last 2 episodes.. Evidently can’t just jump in and tune-in at any given moment anymore.

    Life is full of hoops.

I’m emailing you my request for the secret link.

    # 28 Is Great!
I’m usually always running into brick
walls, but due to a stroke of good
luck, I happened to be in the right
place at the right time. So I got
authorization to get into the vault
    of shows.

LPH # 28 is great! One of the best!

      Getting Help With the Changes
It has come to attention that some browsers seem to run into a loop when trying to access the downloads, and there may be a bug in my code on the download page.

The download page is an RSS.xml page, started at the request of two affiliate stations who wanted the auto-subscription feature provided by RSS.

I am making a change to the code but do not know if the problem will be solved right away.

If you are unable to access a download, it will be helpful if you let me know, and I will send you LPH#28 by e-mail attachment. [email protected]

Thanks to RFB for help trouble-shooting this project.

        Suggestion
What I would do is set up a separate RSS for those stations who want everything automatic so the rest of us can access these shows without ending up in an endless loop.

Or..simply change the permissions on that folder location and we wont get the 403 error loop.

A 403 error is an access error, meaning no one but the admin (you) has permission to access that folder containing the program files. It works for you because you have admin level permissions to access that location. But for the rest of the world and stations, as we are non-admin level, 403 is the result.

Until you change the permissions, or go another route, even those stations wanting RSS automatic won’t get access either!

          Discussion of the Problem
Part of what I am trying to achieve with all the components of website and Low Power Hour distribution, is to minimize the task of managing a growing archive and all the related parts and bits.

If I make two download sites that is exactly what I discontinued and wish to avoid.

Right now the RSS file is not functioning at all.

When I first posted the RSS file it worked for several people, but for RFB, it went into a loop and would not work. Of course it needs to work for everybody.

          Time for a band aid.

Until the thing is fixed, contact [email protected] and I will e-mail the show you request (#s 1 – 28).

By the way, LPH#28 is ready to hear upon demand:

          It’s a low power day.

            Podhawk
I highly suggest you examine Podhawk to manage your show archives and files. And yes it also creates an RSS feed along with a twit feed and slapface feed and all that other nonsense.

            Grabbing Control
Dear Low Power Hour Affiliates and Radio Friends:

A quick fix has been put in place, and you can now find Low Power Hour No. 28 posted in the regular way at the regular site.

            http://www.kdxradio.com/lph.html

As a bonus for all the trouble the program is in super fidelity at 128kbps.

            RSS feed
            Carl,

I tested your page after receiving your email yesterday (and before you implemented any new changes). It worked fine on both my browser types and even my logitech squeezebox played your shows just fine. A 403 error can be caused by many things, but your code was fine when I tested it and your directory permissions were correct. One of the 403 errors that can occur can be caused when someone is being a download hog and trying to be selfish. That would probably be me. At the time you were receiving complaints, I was taking advantage of the addition of all the shows on the page and was connected for so long that I may have caused a 403.9. And then I was testing on several devices at the same time…sorry. You’re just too popular and I want them all too. Using an RSS wizard utility isn’t going to help if you have a directory permissions error problem, so keep up the good work.

            This Is What Happens
            403: Forbidden

This error message is generated when the web server is trying to access a
file that does not exist or has been configured incorrectly

            Troubleshooting suggestions:

Ensure that you have a valid home page defined in your website directory
(example: /htdocs/index.html, /htdocs/index.php). On Unix, this is case
sensitive and must be all lower case.

In your Account Manager, under Hosting Tools, click to .Reset File
            Permissions..

            —————–

The above is NOT the result of someone being a download hog.

            Oh well.
