I was reading the forums here yesterday, I read the one John of WDCX posted about the height suggestions for part 15 am when it hit me, vandalism is the main reason my fm antenna is disguised as old glory and why i have hesitated to place my sstran outside.
But wait, what if i installed the sstran and a mp3 player connected to a 12 volt car battery/solar panel and placed a steel whip on the side of my mini-van???
I could feed audio from a playlist on the mp3 player while im out driving around town, then when i park it at home i could simulcast my fm from a cheap battery operated radio.
All of this except the car battery (completly seperate from the vehicle battery) could be stored in a tool box .
The only drawback i see from a setup like this is the cable feeding the signal to the steel whip.
What do you think?? Any suggestions??

What you are describing, rock95seven, is similar to something I have been day dreaming about. I see emergency warning system poles with solar panels on top, and started picturing using solar for an outdoor transmitter. Since I have bamboo growth, I would make a 3-leg tower from bamboo, which is very strong.
But my happy thoughts did not consider vandalism, which can erupt any time a child OR adult knows about something they want. I had a very basic 4″ loudspeaker on the porch to ask, “Who’s there?,” and a week later it was gone. Security needs to be part of the plans.
Mobile operations
Heh! Been doing that for years,but on FM! I use the car’s whip antenna or a mag mount. Used at a tailgate party to tune 14 car stereos in and share my cd collection,it was a hit! I have also used FM at some of the outdoor venues where I was the DJ. I also leave it on at night with a sensitive mic in the car as a security ear so to speak. A bedside receiver will wake me if anyone is messing with my car! Might come in handy to track the car if it gets stolen. There are sooooo many cool uses for these transmitters…..
Spread the Tunes..
We just had our 30th Class reunion last summer. The stage and the eating area were in different spots but everyone wanted to hear the band/announcements while eating. I interfaced my FM tx’r into the mixer board on stage and put a stereo in the eating area. Worked great!
The owner of the band was highly impressed! He does alot of outside gigs and it’s sometimes hard to get a good “mix”. He has a good stereo in his van and was doing level sets from inside using hand signals to the band members.
These xmtr’s don’t draw much current. 10-20 watt panel, 7-10 aHr. battery, a little charge control and you’re in business!
