For The Love Of Radio

April 24, 2011 by MRAM

This is the Remco Caravelle. It was one of my first Part 15 endevors as a child.

The Caravelle came out around 1961. It was a combination Regenerative AM Receiver and AM Voice/Code Transmitter.

This is the Remco Caravelle. It was one of my first Part 15 endevors as a child.

The Caravelle came out around 1961. It was a combination Regenerative AM Receiver and AM Voice/Code Transmitter.

The transmitter was very unstable, changing frequency when you keyed the Carbon Button microphone.

The range was very limited, maybe 100 feet.

Of course, even way back then, I modified it so I could feed my record player directly into it.

The Caravelle gave Rush Limbaugh his start in radio. I guess we took different paths.

I got three of ’em from Ebay.

    Wow!
Two fairly famous radio guys credit the Caravelle with helping them explore their early love of radio, Talk Titan Rush Limbaugh and Shock Jock Don Geronimo both speak fondly of this rather imaginative toy.

HERE IS A WEBSITE that features the Caravelle with regard to Rush Limbaugh complete with sound bytes of Rush reminiscing about his first shows using Part 15 radio.

There is a brief video on YouTube where Rush talks about the Caravelle. Search Rush Limbaugh Caravelle.
