Fighter Jet

December 8, 2014 by rock95seven

This morning at 11:21 AM a fighter jet flew over our house twice.

First time i was attempting to record a station ID which i was going to use on Blue Bucket Radio and also send to MRAM (Bob) to be used for the ALPB.

The mic was open and i had Audacity set up for recording using the voice activation mode so just as i was about to record, the Jet flew over and was loud enough to start the recording.

At first i was a bit frustrated and bewildered, i mean this isn’t the first time a fighter jet has flown over this mountain but it was loud enough this time to set off the record function and sounded a bit odd in the headphones. I don’t play my headphones very loud due to tinnitus so it was pretty much in the background.

I reviewed the recording and determined that it was indeed a Jet Fighter and assumed it was probably Ky National Guard or some other branch of the military, this happens a lot around here and i haven’t asked anyone about it yet.

So out of curiosity i decided to open a voice recorder app on my Android phone and have it recording while i did my production work. 11 minutes later that jet flew over again and i caught it on virtual tape.

I present to you a free sound effect in the raw of a Jet Fighter flying over the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Which by the way, woke up the rest of the family (who should have been awake anyway) and scared my Siberian Husky enough that she wanted in the house.

I think there might have been a second plane following behind the first but since thunder echoes in these mountains i couldn’t be sure. Lets face it, by the time you hear the sounds it’s already too late to look for it.

Enjoy..

      Sound Effects in a Bucket

Right! And i better take cover now! Years ago i had portable cassette recorders that i used with a stereo microphone to record sound effects. There must have been 12 tapes or more containing sound effects i recorded from where ever i was at the time. After recording the jet fly over this morning i thought it might be neat to start building a library of sound effects i recorded when ever the opportunity presents itself. Should be a lot easier these days with digital recorders and mp3’s. I would rather use analog tape but i no longer have a machine to play tapes of any format. Digital it is..
