As far as I know Carl it cant be done with winamp.

What you could do is have another player installed, say VLC and send that output to another sound output.

If you are using ZaraRadio you can send the outputs of the AUX players to differant outputs in the options from the main player.

Johny, I am always impressed that no matter what comes up you are familiar with the subject and have good suggestions for solutions. I'm happy that you share your experience with us U.S. people up here with our humiliating micro Wattage.

(In Johny's New Zealand he has a legal 1-Watt!!)

I will checkout the VLC Player.

Carl, your goal of sending the output of a computer wirelessly to more than one transmitter seems to have taken some convoluted turns.

It seems that a simple one-to-many wireless audio link would be straightforward and be independent of wi-fi and computers. Here's a different system, available from MCM and others:

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/50-12980

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/50-12981

More information and a PDF manual are available here: http://www.smarthome.com/83616/Channel-Vision-WA-321-1-to-Many-Wireless-Audio-Transmitter/p.aspx

One transmitter broadcasts from line-level audio input jacks. As many receivers as you want can receive and produce output on line- level audio output jacks. Audio out from all receivers is in sync.

Thank you PhilB.

Aren't those attractive wireless devices?

Not only would they avoid the obstacles of Wi-Fi complications, but would forever sign off from all concerns about FM risks and compliancies.

I need to count my spare change to see if the budget will hold up.

I use Virtual Audio Cable, and it comes with a utility called Audio Repeater.  It can take input from any audio device or channel (in my case a Virtual Cable that I use to connect my audio processor to the stream encoder OddCast) and repeat it on any device (in my case, the sound card audio output for my FM transmitter).

I'm sure that there are other similar utilities 'out there'.  The trick is that it's Winamp independent.

So if you want to continue on with your original idea, Carl, it can be done.

Considering all of the very good input that has been gathered thus far, and having made an investment of about $50 for the WiFi USB device, I am going to concentrate for a little longer on trying to solve the problem with software rather than spending more money for other wireless devices.

Johny suggests VLC Audio Player, but it looks like the VLC does not work with vital Winamp plugins, such as Stereo Tool and Shoutcast Stream Encoders.

Artisan Radio's suggestion of using Virtual Audio Cable could very well be the way to go, so it's time to try that.

The Demo Version of Virtual Audio Cable is already installed, and it looks like today will be spent studying the very detailed manual which is necessary to learn how to operate the software. I think I'll read one paragraph per hour and spend the rest of the time goofing around.

Around midday we'll file the next report.

Before talking about my first experience with "Virtual Cable", recommended by Artisan Radio, let's look back at the initiatiating post (#1) at the start of this thread, posted by Ken Norris of Friday Harbor Tiny Radio.

Ken was wondering about using Wi-Fi Routers and a C.Crane Wi-Fi Antenna to achieve a STL (Studio Transmitter Link), but wanted to avoid providing a public Wi-Fi Access in the process, so as to respect established Wi-Fi Hotspots already provided by area businesses.

The replies to Ken seemed to recommend things that didn't address the central question, perhaps because, like me, we aren't sure how well such a Wi-Fi setup would work for STL purposes. I am thinking it would be too elaborate and therefore subject to failure.

For Ken I think the wireless transmitter/receivers posted in Reply #33 from PhilB would be the most excellent way to have a solid STL.

Running 2 winamps solved.

Install the old version winamp295rc as winamp2 when installing and you can run both winamps ( Winamp 2 & 5) with seperate settings at the same time. When installing plugins to it, install them to Winamp2. Download it Here from my server

Running 2 Winamps is already possible, and each one can be sent to a different output, but the trouble is that only one of them is running the playlist of streaming radio program material.

Right now I am making the 2nd Winamp run a streaming connection from the Shoutcast Server, which serves the 2nd output with a signal that is 1-minute later than the main one.

I am about midway into the process of testing "Virtual Cable", which theoretically will allow distributing Winamp audio to two different audio outputs, i.e., the regular output plugs and the USB output.

Virtual Audio Cable with its Audio Repeater Function is doing the job!

One output from streaming Winamp is being distributed to two different outputs at the same time!

Thank you Artisan for knowing and sharing!

Now that something has worked so well, namely the USB Wireless Device from MCM Electronics, it is time for something to go wrong.

I just talked to Terry (female) at MCM and asked if I could order a second receiver so I could connect a 2nd AM transmitter to the wireless path, and she had two bits of bad news:

It comes as a "bundle" (she said "package") and the parts cannot be ordered separately, but even worse, once they exhaust the current supply the item is being discontinued!

I am thinking about ordering a 2nd "package" so that once again I will have the newest in obsolete equipment.

And for the Part 15 gang, if you want one, now is the time.

The audio quality is exactly identical to using a solid wire. I did an A / B test, solid wire compared to the USB receiver, and the sound was indistinquishable.

Also, in my application, there is no signal drop-out, ever.

LATER THAT SAME MORNING

I went ahead and ordered a second USB wireless thing. I love it. There is no cure for Part 15 fever.

Johny, Are you saying that people in New Zealand can't buy stuff online from anywhere in the world?

I have just done a survey of my microwave systems, which include a cordless phone at 1900mHz and the new USB wireless system at 2400mHz.

I'd read that the USB wireless device has been known to interfere with cordless phones, but I'm lucky, both systems work together.

Another review of the USB wireless device reports interference with internet Wi Fi, but my internet connection is hard wired so I don't have that risk. I only hope that a neighborhood Wi Fi isn't being disturbed.

Up until now I have steered clear of microwave, I don't have a cell phone for example, because I am one of those people who believe the microwaves can be harmful to organic life.

But it's a lost battle because the microwaves in the environment from satellites and terrestrial sources is already way above natural levels, so a slight bit more may not matter.

Still, on a radio program today a study was described, in which plants were grown in a room with no Wi Fi and did quite well. But in another room plants were exposed to constant Wi Fi and did not do well at all. I'm going to insert that report into a future Low Power Hour.

What is your understanding of Wi Fi microwave health safety?
