Wow, a blast from the past.

If any of you ever have questions about how to use the wifi stuff... I do that kind of stuff for a living.   Be glad to help you out.

pwrwagn at y a h 0 0 dotcom.

You'll have to put a catchy title in it.  that address is very old and I get a lot of spam to it.

If this is for a STL, are you only concerned with your program audio?

If so, at 35 feet you could use a USB wireless audio link.

Here is a link for a system available from MCM:

Thanks everyone for the input on this.

Rich, I hope I didn't come across as ungrateful, the link was very much on subject in this exploration of Wi-Fi methods, and I made comments that were aimed at clarifying what I am trying to accomplish.

mkosenmaki, appreciate your availability in wi-fi issues, this is new frontier for most of us part 15ers, so you may be getting a few inquiries.

MRAM, the USB device looks like as straight-forward a solution as it could be, and I am planning to order one.

Notice also the more expensive wireless transmitter/receivers listed on the lower part of the same page.

Yes, I looked the list over.  MCM lists several.

It's always troubling reading the reviews as some find the device great, exceeding their expectations and others find it a waste of money.

You just have to wonder how complete PASS or FAIL for the same device is possible.

The USB wireless device looks like it MIGHT work. I am definitely going to obtain one and test it out. But I am confused by the printed description.

The specs say "no software is required." But if that is so, what does this mean? "Audio can easily be switched from USB audio to internal PC audio via control panel options or by disconnecting the USB dongle."

If no software is required, where will the control panel come from?

Perhaps they are referring to some option set through the PC's control panel.

ClarkeC., I agree that you are probably right, since that is the only "control panel" that comes to mind, and I suppose it might be the Windows mixer panel for all the audio input/output settings.

My audio card is part of the motherboard, and has at least two distinct output channels, so the main concern will be to get the correct output to go through the transmitter dongle.

Since the dongle is the transmitter, I am going to mount it way up on one-leg of my indoor bamboo tripod tower, with a 10'-USB extension cable.

I have no experience with the device but assume it works like a USB sound card with a built in RF transmitter.

If so, I would think it would appear as a sound card in Windows Mixer which you would select when you want to remote the audio playing from the PC player.

The USB Wireless Audio Kit arrived today and was installed as the audio feed for the AMT5000 AM transmitter, with the USB transmitter dongle attached to a 25' USB extension that allows mounting it up high on one leg of the indoor bamboo tower tripod.

When the dongle is installed it tells the operating system that there is a USB Speaker choice in the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties." The other choice, the one already existing, is "Realtek HD Audio Output."

Whatever would be true in an ordinary computer must not be true in my computer made from parts and accessories. The "Realtek Sound Card" is part of the GigaByte Motherboard, and also has it's own audio control panel, which does not recognize the USB Speaker.

All this to say that no audio has yet been transferred over the new device.

The Windows "Sound and Audio Devices Properties" panel does display the "USB Speaker," however selecting it does not pass any audio over the wireless device.

The Realtek Control Panel allows a whole batch of speaker outputs for surround sound if desired, but still no "USB Speaker" is available.

The USB Transmitter operates on 2400mHz to 2483mHz, Channel Number 38.

The next thing to try is find an updated audio driver for the Realtek Audio card.

At 7:10 PM this evening I was able to transmit a 440Hz tone over the USB Wireless System and prove that it does work!

Trouble is the tone was coming from Audacity, my editing software, and I need it to come from Winamp, the streaming source.

However, knowing that it can work is good enough for day 1.

There will be a solution ahead.

I noticed something amazing, there is no drop out regardless of where the receiver is located. It can be high up, low down, behind furniture... it doesn't matter!

The pathway was found to connect streaming audio from Winamp out to the USB wireless path of the Wireless Stereo Audio Kit from MCM Electronics.

In Winamp Preferences / Plugins - Output / Devices.... it is possible to choose the output pathway. I switched from "Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output" to "USB Speaker Output" and the audio is now moving wirelessly from the USB dongle out to the Wireless Receiver which connects to the AMT5000 and a solid uninterupted audio signal at 44.1kHz/16-bit is on the air.

One FM STL system has officially been replaced!

There is still a problem to solve. The wired audio to my AMT3000 was passing through "Realtek Audio 2nd Output" which is now switched out in favor of "USB Audio." But I think there is a solution to this problem, and I will be back with the result.

After taking a tour of available pugins for Winamp, I was unable to find one that will send an audio output from a Winamp Playlst to 2 different output channels at the same time, those being "Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output" and "USB Speaker."

So here is the temporary very clumsy kluge that is working now...

The Main Winamp Playlist Player is transmitting to the "USB Speaker", which is the wireless STL to the AMT5000 transmitter.

A second instance of Winamp is open and it is streaming from the local URL of my Shoutcast AAC stream, feeding the radio audio by wire on "Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output" to the AMT3000 transmitter.

The re-streamed audio on the 2nd Winamp is about 30-seconds behind the audio on the USB Wireless, which sounds like I have a houseful of people holding many conversations coming from various radios around the house.

All Part 15ers are officially appointed to a task force to find a way to send a Winamp output to two different speaker systems at the same time!

The way they have it set up, only one of the outputs can be selected at a time.

Deadline midnight tonight.
