I logged on, brought up the "Recent Post" page, looked at a couple threads and had no problem other than a note at the bottom that says "Done with errors on the page."

Then I cleared the cache and refreshed the page. No problem.

Maybe Ohio is on a different server.

Steve, I don't know if this is a hint but I found that the problem generally goes away if I log in. The screen loads as usual after login but once it failed to do so. (Firefox, XP)

Thanks for all you do to keep things running.

Neil

Safari has been fine all along, but now it won't display the Part15.us startup page. Also I had to login manually, and I had a tough time finding the login form.

Yet after I logged in and went to a forum, it seems generally OK, except that the body space where I'm typing right now is narrow, same width as the Subject line. I had to widen it manually.

"You'd have a much easier time of it using tables.
Did those problems just start?"

No, but Explorer tends to screw up tables too. On my Macs, with different browsers, all works correctly, except Explorer on a PC doesn't follow some rules. Explorer consistently wreaks havoc with web pages, often having to be accounted for with alternate code. It's easy to reach into, but IMO it's it's still a piece of baktag (Klingon for .... well, you guess ... ;))

I'll fix it one of these days when I move everything into CSS', but until then, it still reads out OK and the widget works, so proper centering is the only issue.

When using "Firefox" (Windows 7), the site opens and then redirects with "kona5.kontera.com" or "kona40.kontera.com" which are labeled by a recent Squid Report as an "ultraDNS". In other woreds, someone has managed to put a line of script (script-kiddies) on the page to redirect the html through an off-shore DNS where it is run remote control. A backwards trace of the DNS produces fake DNS numbers and won't respond when attempting to download. Part15.us child pages will load in Chrome or Explorer, but not in Firefox. The possible fix will be to either re-load the home page or view the home page source html and find the redirect script, make the correction and then re-load.

There definitely is a script that redirects to Kontera.com, and that server running remotely. It also presents fake DNS numbers to mask it's origin.

Happily, it's not malicious - that's one of the ad servers here and masking the DNS is an encryption strategy to reduce traffic theft. The Kontera module is one of the monetizing modules in the CMS and one that members generally like because it can be (and here, is) set to not display ads to folks who are logged in.

However, it might be gaaked, either because of the Japan issues or something else that needs looking into - good suggestion!

I get exactly the same results as Marshal says. Right now Firefox is useless for this site. IE works because it seems to mask the error, although the fact that IE detected an error is
is displayed at the bottom of the page. You should fix the problem or eliminate the offending ad link temporarily until the malicious invasion can be eliminated.

Statistics for my web site currently show:
IE 45.8 %
Firefox 32.3 %
Chrome 13.3 %

Firefox and Chrome are increasingly popular because IE is bloated and slow. You really should fix the problem so the site runs on Firefox too.

I use Firefox by default because it is faster and doesn't typically have problems relative to IE, but currently, I need to use IE8 to view part15.us It's an inconvenience for me, but many viewers who use Firefox exclusively will be turned away.

I posted this message from IE8.

Here is St. Louis and now is 12:49 PM CDT, where Firefox flies all to pieces on this website, but IE8 brings in a disembled but usable version.

Life will be more comfy when Firefox works.

Good luck back in the code room. Lucky this isn't nuclear.

I have the same problem here. Firefox loads normally, looked OK then went blank. The bottom of the screen showed this:
Transferring data from kona5.kontera.com...

IE has most of the ads in the center, you have to scroll to different portions to get to the forum lists, hard to tell where they arer at first.

Also, the text I'm typing is showing up as typewriter rather than the usual (whatever that was).

5:17 PM CDT Monday and IE8 is now looking normal. Something must be fixed. Let me try Firefox.

Well, this is neat. I wrote the first paragraph in IE8 and am EDITING now from Firefox.

IT IS HOLDING STEADY. SOMETHING IS FIXED! LIFE CAN RETURN TO NORMAL.

Good work.

For Firefox users: there is a fix for the browser...and its free. Those who would like to know the fix send me a personal email. I takes less than 5 minutes to fix the problem. [email protected]

Just a few moments ago, I was experiencing the "CloudFlare's Always Online" program that the part15 forum evidently had incorporated into this website...

Pretty neat feature. For whatever the reason your site was temporarily unavailable, but instead of receiving an error and a blank page, 'CloudFlare' kicked in, and I was able to continue browsing without missing a beat, via a very current archive.

I guess you'd call that a 'live archive'.
Very cool
I'm going to look that cloudflare thing up!

hey all.. again, thanks for the feedback.

Kontera serves the underlined words you see on the pages if you're NOT logged in. I disabled it for logged in users for performance reasons (its kinda slow otherwise) it definitely is not a 'hack' as I put it there myself 🙂

*THE SITE HAS NOT BEEN HIJACKED*

if it turns out to be the cause, i'll disable it entirely, but i think the problem still occurs sometimes when logged in. still looking.

BTW.. cloudflare is simply awesome. try it out on your websites sometime!
