At one point I had all my part 15 history documented, I have since lost that information. But I know mine didn't get their start until 2007 when I rigged that RC Plane controller to spit out AM audio on 49.86 MHz.
It was early in 2006 when I decided to open a bookstore on Bowen Island, along with a BETS-1 radio station (the bookstore was really there to supply the cash flow for the storefront radio station).
It took several months to find a suitable storefront - in Artisan Square, a small community of retail/artist studios/residences, high up on a hill overlooking Snug Cove (the 'downtown' of Bowen Island, out of which the ferry ran). Hence the name Artisan Radio.
It then took several months more to build the bookstore (Sherlock Tomes) and the radio station, all from scratch.
During the late spring/early summer of that year, Artisan Radio broadcast in a test mode, as we determined the best frequency to use, the most effective installation and began planning our programming. We had several newspaper articles published describing the endeavor (the local Bowen paper and the Vancouver Province).
We finally launched August 1, and ran 24/7 (serving Artisan Square, Snug Cove and the ferry lineup) until the spring of 2008. Unfortunately, unexpected health problems forced me to close both the bookstore & radio station, and even move off of Bowen Island. Thankfully, everything ended up OK health-wise, and Artisan Radio continued, albeit in a much diminished fashion, from 2009 until today.
