This is fun, and I made a special little sample to explain how we sound at kdx.

Maybe that could be part of a future Low Power Hour show, where you have a montage of air check snippets of different Part 15 stations and comments from the operators. BTW, Love your programs!

Yes, MS1650, that's a good idea and it will happen. I'm glad you suggested it, because I didn't think of it.

"If I understand correctly, grab a radio hook it up to a recording device and record your station as it would sound to the average joe tuning in. Record directly from a radio and upload it to a server so that we can hear what it would sound like if we were in your town tuning in for the first time."

OK, here goes ...
http://fhtinyradio.com/Library/AudioLib/FHTRTaxiAstrovan082211.mp3

Stats:

1) Talking House TX with homemade ATU and loading coil antenna system, mounted on the deck of a boat in a saltwater marina.

2) Using an iMac with iTunes and Rogue Amoeba's Nicecast with effects software for dynamics control.

3) Receiver: Car radio is a 1997 Chev Astrovan standard AM/FM radio with front and rear speakers.

4) Recorded with a Tascam DP-008, internal electret condenser mics, held in my hand, quite below normal ear level so the seats and carpeting are acting as something of a low-pass filter, i.e., highs and high-mids sound weaker than they are at normal ear level. Re-ecorded to GarageBand, no effects.

5) TOD ... right at sunset, the signal was beginning to get a little noise.

6) Distance: Car inside a business park surrounded by concrete block buildings and walls about 11' high, approx. 2000' from the TX and antenna.

7) Music is Solar Siblings "Strong Box", Debbie Nash-Strasser guitar and vocals, Kirk Furmeister mando, percussion, and vocals, Cecil DeMerleer upright bass ... all local island musicians.

The loud noise was me shutting the car door.
