Talk about a weekend.
First of all, on New Years Eve we celebrated Chistmas with our daughter from Minneapolis because she had to work on Christmas. Gifts, Christmas cookies, TV specials. All that. Then when we're done with gifts she announced one more -- she's pregnant! Her first child. This will be grandchild #7. A surprise indeed. But Grandkids are the best and she'll be a perfect Mom.
Then New Years Day, the office manager from the station where I work passed away. She's worked at the station since the 60's, through FOUR different owners! I've worked with her for 28 years. She was one of those old school classy broads. You did it Karen's way or you didn't do it at all. She did all the bookeeping, payroll, logging, billing, everything that had to do with the office of the radio stations. I guess it wasn't a total shock as she was 70 and had been having some health issues, but it's almost like losing a Mom. She was the definition of integrity. One of those people from the good ol' days with the excellent Grandma handwriting. She's going to be greatly missed both from a professional standpoint (as it's hard to replace legendary staff) and as a friend and confidant. She worked until the day she died and had all her marbles right to the end. It's going to be one hell of a week.
Carry on, all.

I know the feeling well Tim, we recently lost our sales manager. She was around 74, knew everybody in town and had been with the station for well over a decade.
A life arrives a life departs.
We had a woman like Karen at the FM station where I started... she did everything too, kept the place together while it went through lean startup years then got established. Her death was so devastating for the owner he sold the station soon after.
If your Minneapolis daughter has a girl "Karen" might be a good name.
Bovey enters 2016.
