I'm surprised no one has commented on this story. The newspaper obviously wants to paint a bad image of any unlicensed broadcaster by brining up previous criminal offenses of the operators. That was unjustified for the purpose of the story, but appeased many of the commercial broadcasters in their area. The story is poorly written and focuses mainly on discrediting the station operators.
With that said, I have read about the wartime loophole before. I understand the purpose of the "loophole" but whether or not you think it applies, it is hard to justify it's use for what is basically a music station. If their station were broadcasting alternative news and opinion their justification would be more valid.
I wholeheartedly agree that this particular stations use of the wartime clause is poor at best. BUT - it made me think "Are we seeing/hearing the whole story? Is there anything out there important enough to broadcast that is not already being said by the (skewed) news media? In the day of internet, is a Wartime Station justifyable?"
