Alrighty guys, I'm really wanting to find a talking house ATU, I had one but sold it here A few years back.
If anyone knows where one is, let me know!
The ATU will become legendary by reputation because it was such a departure from the ordinary everyday way of doing part 15.
A true imitation of the original, identical in everyway, would certainly have the makings of a permanent yardsale known everywhere as the place to find a genuine imitation ATU.
It could even be re-named "The Yard Saler" instead of "Talking House."
I've got a piece of paper and a pencil. Get me an original ATU and I'll draw up plans for feeding parts into a modern 3D printer and we'll have our baby come out the other end... simulated... synthetic... authentic... a real fake.
I can't see why someone couldn't make ATUs, no certification would seem to be needed since there's no active RF stages, an ATU is a passive device. It would be a kit, and up to the user to determine fitness.
I would like to see a diagram of what's inside of a Talkinghouse ATU, even a picture would be enjoyable, since I've never seen what one looks like inside.

Now from his Teamspeak High Rise Executive Penthouse up in the parking garage, MRAM Bob serves part 15 with you couldn't get before.
Just this question:
There is a transformer shown in there but it's the only part that isn't identified.
What are we supposed to do about that? Huh Bob?
For what it is worth Station 8 is working on a ATU/indoor/outdoor antenna that will work on the Talking House and is a little over 5 feet tall. I'm his beta tester as we work on something that will work for a lot of part 15 AM users who can't get an outside antenna up or who really needs to hide the fact. Yet this new system has had the range of 2 miles outside and there is still testing and tweaking to be done. However when done we hope for some superior range from it.
I do know the transformer is a toroid but I don't know the turns ratio.
Time permitting I will examine my spare ATU to see what I can determine.
In the mean time perhaps Jeff Station 8 will have some input on this mystery.
Somehow Talking House got the FCC to certify their ATU with 25 feet of coax (i.e., feedline in any other scenario) running to the ATU; they convinced them that the ATU was the final stage of the transmitter.
The problem with making your own ATU is that those dastardly Part 15 rules still apply - the length of the feedline + antenna + ground wire must be 10 feet or less. I doubt that you'll convince an FCC inspector that your homemade ATU is the final stage of a transmitter (although I suppose you could try).
Hi Mighty 1650: I did a manual on the Talking House ATU and i finally got written approval and the ok from dan from radio systems to put up on the ALPB web site.
Just have to wait until Mram has the time to put up on line, Ok.
When it happen you will be able to download.
Wanted to let you know ok.
Check it out and let me know what you think.

I have 2 Talking House ATUs. I am using the oldest one and it works fine. The second one is 3 years old and it fell and got cracked in several places--around the pole mounting section. It has been in use until recently and works OK, but I had to attached it with...yes...duct tape.
Carl--I would love to have you use this to print a duplicate. I would be happy to exchange this with you for a 'printed copy'.
My radio career is behind the mic--I know nothing about the technical end....I jush push buttons and hope it all works.
Off topic--I would like to get a new Sstran 5000 and a good ground radial system--I like the one offered by Radion Brandy, but can't get a response to e-mails. But, because I have trouble pouring milk, I need an antenna system that basically is 'plug 'n play'. Any ideas?
I have two Talking House ATUs, both are working. The one I am using is quite old, but works just fine. The second one is 3 years old and has broken plastic parts--it fell and broke off a couple of the pieces that are used for mounting on a pole. It still works very well.
I have no idea what this is worth, but am open to offers.
Carl, I would love to have you use this to make a "3D print", if I could get one of the copies.
