I have two California radio stories told to me by friends back in the 1960s which I have never been able to confirm.
I was told that in the early FM years the movie actor Jerry Lewis (Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis and the Jerry Lewis Telethon) owned his own FM station and had it fixed so that he could switch on from his home and goof around on the air when he was in the mood, otherwise there was a studio staff in a commercial building that took over. That would have been in Hollywood.
Then I was told that a San Francisco station was going to change its format everyday! If true, I wonder how that worked.
How can such stories be researched?
I don't know. In California it was common to rin into or know a celebrity. Probably someone really into part 15 radio knew him.
