Mram1500 is correct. There can be radiation from feedlines, especially when your antenna has a poor ground (sometimes, it's inevitable, given condos and the like), or is horribly mismatched. Amateur radio operators have lived with this for years. The solution is to build a choke to eliminate most of that feedline RF (and it can be as simple as winding the feedline coax around, say, a PVC pipe). That will stop your cabinets from lighting up, and your appliances from turning on when you transmit. Although with Part 15 power levels, that's not likely to occur.
Never the less, the rules do include the length of the feedline, along with the antenna length and ground. Presumably because Part 15 antennas are deliberately (by the rules) horribly mismatched, and not everyone has the knowledge or desire to build a choke.
So it really doesn't matter whether Carl's proposed solution would work or not. Or even if you add a choke. You'd be violating the Part 15 rules if you use a long feedline (regardless of the physics).
Unless, of course, you can convince the FCC inspector who might show up that the feedline is feeding the final stage of a transmitter, as the Talking House people did.
No "refutation" is necessary to those having the required technical background and comprehension of this subject.
Give me a break. It's that kind of arrogant answer that identifies the 'other' Forum mentioned. Let's not become a clone of that Forum here.
Artisan raises an interesting subject. When is arrogance acceptable as a style of behavior?
I'll get back to the forum subject soon enough, but let me pursue this side-track for a bit.
What I think at this moment is that there are different styles of arrogance.
There's dogmatic arrogance, which says, "I'm right and you're wrong."
There's natural arrogance which says, "I was born superior and can't help it."
Perhaps there are more styles of arrogance... "I am in charge by titular authority and you're not..."
Only the ALPB can sort it out.
Back to the subject...
Alright, my idea as posted above is over-ruled by authoritative opinions, so what about this?
I foresee using fiberoptic cable to shoot an AM signal to an antenna without use of wire.
Impressed? I was born this way.
Personally, I believe this Forum is all about helping each other. Without all the political and ego crap.
I also believe that experience rules. Theory is fine (and necessary to get started). But the rubber hits the road when you actually put the theory into practice. I've found that theory quite often doesn't match up with what really happens when you actually do something (as opposed to just ruminating about it, or running simulations).
And I also believe that it's OK to disagree and enter into spirited discussions. But at the end of the day, not to lose sight of my first point - that we're here to help each other. Hopefully also to learn from each others experiences (my second point).
Otherwise, why bother?
