In the beginning of the original "Planet Of The
Apes" movie, Charleton Heston's astronaut
character is talking to nobody in particular
(except maybe a voice recorder) as he is
getting ready to join the rest of the starship's crew
in suspended animation.
As we know, the ship's crew (travelling somewhere
around light speed) is aging very slowly, but they
will be about 1000 years in the future when they
arrive at their (unknown?) destination. He mentions
something like, "Hodgkins Theory of Time Displacement."
Is this a real thing, or is it just a movie line?
Bruce
Bruce, I went looking for Hodgkins Theory of Time Displacement on Wikipedia and could not find it, but here's what I found:
The expression "Time Displacement" is used in sociology to describe the fact that people spend time on different things today than they did in the past. A simple example might be... in the past people sepnt time listening to the radio, but then began spending that time watching TV, and now days they spend that time on the internet.
I would prefer to call that "activity displacement."
Also I got referred to "Time Dilation," from Einstein's Theory of Relativity which is linked here...

Thank you. I'll look up the
link in a little while.
Also, I'll have to relook at the beginning of
"Planet Of The Apes" some time soon, and
see what Charlton Heston really said.
I am very fond of that movie. I think
Rod Serling wrote the screen play.
Best Wishes,
Bruce
Thanks for the link. I just read it.
It messes up my mind.
I'm going to have to really study it
to understand.
Which will be fun.

ALPB World Clock Time Reference. Watching the terminator (sp?) is great.
It's really fun!

The real name for Earth is "The Planet of the Clocks"
The earth looks like a clock hung on the wall of space.
Figure this out and get back to me

Kinda makes me want to put a sundial in the studio yard with a web cam on it. People around the world can then check on Tim time.
Tim in Bovey
We want Tim Time, and will appoint it as the Official Reference Clock for Part 15 Radio.
What is needed now is a way of making it work at night.
