Religion and politics.
I am guilty of talking about them before on here. And in my now infamous rant shows, that is all I discuss. To keep the calmness and respect of others at high levels here, I will refrain from making any political or religious comments.

Guess that's why the CRTC here in Canada for BETS-1 says nothing political or religous can be broadcast. These are touchy subjects.

Here in Canada there are 2 regulatory bodies for broadcasting. Industry Canada regulates the technical aspects, while the CRTC regulates content.
It's actually the CRTC that mandates no religion or politics. That's one of the conditions for BETS-1 broadcasters to be exempt from getting a CRTC license.

Maybe this site isn't as ready for radical reporting and commentary. I have a feeling that this would be taken more casually in for example, NYC, LA, San Fransisco, Santa Cruz or Seattle, where harder edge news and commentary seems to be the norm, and even competitive with people getting out there with a mic or video phone and being heard.
Interesting how politics and religion are regulated by a separate board in Canada. In the US if your politics or religion are too hurtful to others, it's not likely you'd get your station shut down for that, though someone might find a technical violation to stop you, that's my idea.
The Fairness Dovtrine went out the window in 1987.
Eliminated basically because of that pesky Firt Ammendment and all that free speech stuff.
Broadcasters in the USA are free to talk about whatever they want, and now may even get away with some pretty bad language. Been that way for nearly 30 yeas now.

in our societal attitude toward one another especially attitudes toward the least among us and less fotunate by those who are well off and attitudes toward minorities.
I think, as Artisan mentioned, the CRTC says nothing religous or political if you want to broadcast without a licence.
Which seems to imply that you need a CRTC licence to have that content so if there are complaints you are registered and they can know who and where you are.
Even with commercial radio the talk stations here have to be very careful about on air content....not free speech on radio in Canada. If a caller started to say something that's not keeping with guidelines they are deleted right away even though it's not the opinion of the station or the host.
