For just over 24 hours now, K-Rocks AM Stereo 1670 has been the station's 3 stream audio source from a Sony ST-JX220A FM Stereo/AM Stereo component tuner.

I have received "reception" reports from outside of the forum's membership, but no one as of yet from the forum other than those during the testing phases! 😕

For the best and most closest accurate sound reproduction, tune to my station's 128kps 44.1Khz stereo mp3 feed. But the other two streams, the 48kps, 24khz stereo mp3 feed and the 24kps 44.1khz AAC+ feed sound quite good as well.

Here are the links:

External/installed players (Winamp/VLC/ETC)

Standard 128kps mp3 stream. Practically any player on a computer will have no problem playing this stream.

Standard 48kps mp3 stream. Again any player should have no trouble connecting.

24kps AAC+ stream. Not all players will play an AAC stream. Certain players like Winamp, Windows Media Player, VLC player can play an AAC stream. Other players may require a plug in or update. Check your player's documentation for more information on options.

Embedded player links (web page player)

128kps Windows Media Embedded Player.

48kps Windows Media Embedded Player.

24kps AAC+ Windows Media Player.

Flash Player (web page player)

128kps 44.1khz stereo mp3 stream.

48kps 24khz stereo mp3 stream.

Unfortunately Flash player cannot properly decode an AAC or AAC + stream by default.

Currently the tuner is feeding the encoding computer's line level input and the encoders are set to encode from that line input. There is no equalization applied, no basic tone control applied. Just plain line level out of the tuner to the line input of the stream encoding computer. No enhancements to that audio signal with any encoding processors or plug in's. This allows for a realistic listening experience through the use of your own sound enhancement preferences just as if this tuner was connected to your audio system.

What you hear when you tune in to one of those links is unaltered demodulated AM C-QUAM stereo audio directly from the Sony ST-JX220A tuner.

So you are tuning in to a tuner tuned to an over the air signal, which at this moment, and for the last 24 or so hours, is the ONLY Part 15 AM radio signal with the furthest reach well beyond 1/2 mile or the 94 feet 221 distance with a little help from the web!

I would most appreciate "reception" reports from everyone and anyone tuning in, ie how it sounds, suggestions etc.

Thanks and enjoy C-QUAM AM Stereo sound!

Got it on right now RFB.

It's late but if you want to jump on TS for a few I would love to chat some AM Stereo stuff.

Appreciate the reports. Would like to hear more. I am mainly wanting to know if the dynamic range of the sound is good, or should there be some processing added.

The idea was to let the audio feed through without any alteration, like as if the tuner being used to feed my stream encoders would be connected directly to your audio system, where you can adjust your bass/treble or other audio enhancement capabilities.

So far the reports indicate there would be no need to do anything with the audio from the tuner. And that's good!

Thanks again!

RFB

When I tune in there are interviews in progress, with mono voices.

But I will keep trying again.

Hi RFB! Tuned into your main 128kbs stream at 2:42pm edt today...heard what sounded like a caveman's yelp as he was reacting to being tased about 3 times a second. Fidelity of the "music" was quite good. The next song tho, had lots of violins, and violins get a lot of their signature sound from the harmonics that run from 10 - 15 khz and beyond. I could not hear these overtones in the stream, so the violins sounded like regular AM to me. (Altho much better than "typical" AM reception, where today's sets roll off around 5khz)

In a nutshell, IMO, AM C-quam has maybe 70% of FM's quality. Maybe it's still the stream holding it back....but I was listening at 128 kbs. Thanks!

They are working.

I'll be checking your C-QUAM feed
as soon as I can.

I have been trying to fix the damaged
front panel on my
Sony SRF-A100 C-QUAM (and other old
stereo modes) receiver. This project
has been going on for years.

The SRF-A100 has a good audio section.
The GNAT 90.9 transmitter has usually
been in mono (it's a North Country Radio
MPX-96) but I flicked the big switch over
to stereo a week ago and am enjoying hearing
the GNAT 90.9 FM stereo audio through the SRF-A100.

I am still listening to C-QUAM on the AM band.
That 1220 kHz daytimer sounds quite good, especially
with my regenerative AM BCB DX loop. WLS
In Chicago on 890 seems to be doing C-QUAM
stereo, but you only hear it once in a while,
on some commercials. I want to keep trying it
to be absolutely sure I am really hearing the
stereo.

Best Wishes,
Bruce, GNAT 90.9

RFB the stream sounds great. I also tuned in during a talk show so i checked the schedule and tuned in again during a music program. What i heard was great and took me back to the 80's when C-Quam was new. My first taste of Am Stereo was in a Dodge Omni with a factory Delco AM Stereo/FM Stereo Receiver.

I listened to your stream both over a set of over the ear headphones and over the computer speakers, i think i like it better over the headphones only because you get a better feel for the wide stereo sound you don't normally hear over even the best computer speakers.

Great Work

RFB, sitting here in work with a MAC
on the desk, I checked your
128 kps 44.1 kHz stereo MP3 stream.

OH YEAH!!!

Great great job!

I'm going to listen some more.

Bruce, GNAT 90.9

However try to bring the volume down about two DB or so and I think it will sound even better.
BTW I like the Re transmission from the Radio .. And the Stereo Split is perfect.

Thanks for all the reports!

Another idea I had is to set up a second 128kps server and feed that with my FM station's audio from an identical receiver, except this receiver is the ST-JX220, the US version which did not have AM Stereo capability.

Then there would be best of both worlds! 🙂

I very much enjoy this idea of feeding links FROM radio receivers, rather than raw computer output.

It makes the internet listener much more of a true listener to your part 15 station!

AND, it could be done from mono AM stations just as easily, so that online listeners would literally be hearing the station from your transmitter.

FURTHERMORE, it was YOU, RFB, who said that part 15 shortwave and longwave were pointless because people aren't listening to those bands, all of a sudden it makes sense!

Your shortwave station could be fed from a radio to the stream;

Also the longwave broadcast!

This is a thrilling and important idea.
