Uh oh...

Pretty neat to actually hear the board frying live on the air!

I would not want to be that guy...

So sorry to view your misfortune.

I have to keep notes on the sound cabinet at church ... church ladies always think it's a good spot to set flower vases with water in them. Had to repair channels 1 & 2 on the old Mackie from a spill several years ago ... fortunately it didn't get to the master section or the PS.

Well such elaborate studio setups in stations such as that one, surprising the engineer didn't incorporate an old but very reliable way to protect stuff from that accident from causing that much damage.

A simple moisture detector circuit to shut off the mains to the power supply of that board, or anything else within spill range of over excited "FM'ers"! 😉

I equipped such a system at a station in TX where accidents like this one were common place. Saved that operation a lot of repair expense and down time.

Stink happens though.

Something else I noticed. The coffee spill inside the console did more than just short the thing out, it cleaned up a spot of very thick dust layer on that slot card, meaning lack of frequent maintenance. If there is that much dust on the surface of the PC boards, the same amount is inside the fade sliders and in between the button housings and buttons themselves, and no telling how much dust/lint and what not is underneath between the console case, the console desk and in the wire troth (hell hole)..oh and the air filters on all those computer systems!

I think Mr. Kelly has a lot more work ahead than just fixing that console! I would be ashamed to let video go out showing all that built up dirt inside the equipment.

It was 1965, I was on the board at 920 AM doing a C&W show, and I had with me a young falcon I was raising... not too large.... a "sparrow hawk," they only get about robin sized when full grown.... but there was an incident regarding the bird's water dish which tipped right on top of the Gates board. All the audio blanked out.

Luckily the sound came back by drying the inside of the board with a rag...and the station owner had a good scowl for me.

Reaction to the board frying:

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHH

Reaction is Carl's bird:

Hey, dude, you like birds.
Cool!

(Wait a minute - is this bird
story real, or is it just a Part15.US
comedy routine? I tend to think
it's real, but then again...)

Sincerely and with great conviction,
Bruce, DRS2

During my 20s I had a small falcon for a long time and then later a crow.

Now I am pet free and can't understand how people have the time and budget to keep pets, but of course it's very popular.

Falcons don't do anything funny but crows sure do.

Birds.

Living airplanes.

And as for pets, I love
our dogs. But I was the
last person to say yes,
when we were deciding to
get our first dog. About
ten years ago.
