As was noted before, the EDIT function has been disabled and this has resulted in some expression of valid concerns about this. It would be nice to be able to edit posts to correct typos or to add information but there is a downside.
It was long ago recognized that there can be problems with post editing and the site did not permit editing until the recent upgrade. Since the upgrade some of the problems recurred and thus the edit function was turned off pending a solution.
Here are examples of what can and did happen:
A poster deletes part of his post after others have replied and the replies are now referencing material that is no longer there. This can make the replies seem out of context and confusing.
Another poster takes issue with something posted and quotes the posting in their reply but if the quoted content has been edited out of the original post then it is out of context.
A poster becomes angry over something and decides to edit many of his previous posts to a "null" entry destroying board content and threads.
One solution which is being researched is to permit "time limited" editing with a reasonable time allowed for edits. Another is to permit editing until a reply is posted. Please be patient as we look into these options.
If you have other suggestions use the CONTACT function to let us know. To avoid protracted discussion here this post is locked.
