for providing us with sources of free programming, here and elsewhere.

I just saw your post about the Buzz Burbank News and Comment show - you should probably post that link here as well.  It's quite enjoyable.  I have one question, though - while permission was granted for over-the-air broadcasts, was streaming mentioned?

I'm in the process of looking for additional programming for what will eventually be a streaming radio station only - I will be using an RSS210 (equivalent to Part 15.239) FM transmitter to broadcast the station throughout my house for my family's listening pleasure, but that's it.  The over-the-air broadcast will not be aimed at the general public.

The content of the station will be public domain sound recordings (using Canadian copyright rules, which are far less stringent than those of the U.S.) such as vintage jazz & blues, OTR, etc., but I plan on supplementing that with additional material available elsewhere.

I really like the CPR News 1/2 hour show, and I'm also attempting to find some decent news headlines.  I used to use Feature Story News - they charge $15 per month, which is reasonable, but I'm hoping I can find some alternative sources.

The GCN network appears to have some pretty good shows that would be perfect for overnight listening.  The ads (which you have to play) are a bit annoying but I'm willing to accept them in the overnight slots.

I'll add to the whole mix several live (or at least, recorded live) shows by myself (I'm thinking one on vintage opera/vocal recordings i.e. prior to 1965 and another on vintage classical recordings - I'm hoping to use the original vinyl but we'll have to see how practical that is) and I think I'll have a pretty good package.  One at least that I'll want to listen to even if nobody else does.

Public News Service is a daily 5-minute newscast 6-days a week posted in the early morning.

It is excellent.

I was absolutely prepared to post the Buzz Burbank News information here, I was only waiting for the problem with posting new threads here to be corrected. I have a major enthusiam for his news. To me it's exactly the kind of news presentation I personally would prefer on my station..

I had previously come across mention of someone using his newscast on their part 15 station a while ago, but recently, while seeking out specifics on the rights, I couldn't find anything at all, so I emailed him. His response was as follows:

"..I’m pleased to hear you, and perhaps others, are interested in carrying my news on Part 15 stations, and permission is hereby granted with one condition:
That the show be aired as presented, complete with commercials, promos and stagers.
I would appreciate it VERY much, if you could supply me with the location and call letters of your station, and/or any others in your group that are airing, or planning to air, the show.
We reserve the right to withdraw permission at any point, but do not anticipate such an event.
Thank you for the kind words and good luck!
-Buzz"

I really hope others in the part 15 community apreciate his newscast as much, and inturn contact him with their information about their station, because he appears to have a genuine interest on those of us who are interested in including his program in our broadcast. He's offering it freely, all he ask is for some interaction so he knows who's utilizing it.

To be honest, I wasn't aware of his background, but evidently he's well known and very established in broadcasting, I came across this article about  him here: http://www.hobotrashcan.com/2008/10/16/one-on-one-with-buzz-burbank ),

A new 'Buzz Burbank's News and Comment' is released every day, and it's first rate - but listen for yourself, because I'm only expressing my personal opinion:

Buzz Burbank News & Comment by browsing through the Relm Radio Network:
http://www.relmnetwork.com/#!buzz-burbank-news/

or go directly to his newscast here: http://buzzburbank.libsyn.com/

@Carl.. I totally agree about PNR, however, I tried contacting them last year with no response, and then again a few days ago - and so far still no response. - Without some kind of airing rights on posted on their website, nor any acknowledgement response to emails.. There's no way to confirm we have any rights to air it.

@Artesian Yes CPR News is great too. Between the Lines is also good, although they are a weekly broadcast and not daily. -- Oh, I did not ask about streaming rights from anyone, but I'm sure you would get a rapid reply to your inquirey if you asked!

Not really a news broadcast, but a superb program is http://www.radiocurious.org which I only recently stubled across - it's great! (as far as I'm concerned), and I have contacted him directly and we part 15s have permissions, but he, like the rest, would appreciate hearing from those who are going to air his program.

And not meaning to keep shamelessly aiming you towards my blog, but I do keep updatating the content of that particular post "Free Programing sources for Part 15 broadcasters" on almost a daily basis.. There are several CONFIRMED interesting free-to-air for part 15 shows .. http://part15lab.blogspot.com/2016/02/free-programing-sources-for-your-part.html

I have put a link to Rich Power's "Part 15 Lab" on my Part 15 Page (it will be uploaded later today).

The Part 15 Lab is the most excellent listing of available programs ever.

Throughout the day today I will be submitting links to available programs for Mr. Powers to consider for his list, but I don't want to work too hard all at once. Here is a daily labor report Mon.-Fri.

http://laborradio.org/

My impression has been that most part 15 stations present music formats and not talk programs, so I have always considered it a meaningless effort to suggest programs, but more stations seem to be offering topical talk shows, which makes it worthwhile to offer suggestions.

Gotta get a 2nd cup of coffee.

Minutes Later...

Ah, I have 7-minutes remaining on the clock and have another weekly program which I highly recommend.

TUC Radio is 30-minutes weekly free to radio stations and more than any other show covers the most serious world issues, produced since 1992 by Maria Gilardin.

Maria Gilardin is amazing, having learned radio at major public and community stations in California, and today operates from a straw bale house SHE BUILT in the woods of Northern California operating on solar power.

She has learned audio arts from the best engineers in the business and has fabulous sound quality.

Hundreds of programs are available on her website.

John WDCX just linked you to the "Nut" page, but here is the page of use for part 15 programmers...  The weekly "Shortwave Report" is a professional and consistent collection of news stories gathered from shortwave stations in several countries.

The programs is carried by quite a few licensed stations and by KDX Worldround Radio.

This gentleman also has a solar powered house in the woods.

http://www.outfarpress.com/shortwave.shtml

Also let me say that Maria Gilardin is far from being a nutjob, she's more intelligent than any of us.

CARL SAID "Also let me say that Maria Gilardin is far from being a nutjob, she's more intelligent than any of us."

I SAID: "ONLY A NUT JOB WOULD EXPOSE THE RADIOACTIVITY PROBLEMS IN JAPAN AS WELL AS THE ILLEGAL FBI/GRAND JURY COLLUSION IN THE UNTED STATES."

By the way, I just got conformation for part 15 use, a few minutes ago of the program "Big Picture Science" - Not a news broadcast, but an interesting talk show which I will add to the list later today:

Thanks for the suggestions. I will certainly check them out and get them added to the list.

That is my impression too.. I'm quite certain that is the case. However, .. and this is just the way I look at, but due to the limitations of legal part 15 broadcasting, it seems unlikely to me that the average joe is going to opt to tune in to a weak more interference prone recepetion of music programing when they have so many options of the same kind of programming on the powerful clear FM stations on the dial, or as many do, by connecting digital stations through their stereo..

My point is, it seems to me that anyone who bothers to listen to AM is doing it because they can't get the same kind of programming on the FM dial (at least that is why I am a rather avid listerner of AM). I love listening to music, but when listening on a radio, it's the FM dial I utilize to avoid the interference..

All these programs I'm compiling and confirming as free use on part 15 compleatly by-pass all the hoops, headaches, and cost involved with the legalities of publicly broadcasting the copyright music the big stations air, plus it makes your station less of a threat to those licensed stations who might want to cause trouble for you.

I know I'm the oddball with my view, but Part 15 is a unique form of public broadcasting, and it just makes more sense to me to use it for specialy broadcasting. I have been gathering these programs to create a compleatly seperate part 15 station from my current end80radio station.. I've currently have three transmitters, 2 Rangemasters (one currently needing repair that I bought on ebay last year), and a AMT3000. The Rangemasters I want to continue use for end80radio, and the AMT for the new station. Eventually I want more AM transmitters to expand on both with.

Here is another professionally produced weekly half-hour on recent events in world news, similar to "Between the Lines".

Click on the "Counterpoint Menu" and then "Archives".
