Negative advertising is of great interest to anyone who is trying to send a message.
"You're the worst pirate I've ever heard of."
"But you have heard of me."

Why are you diging this back up after it was agreed enough is enough?
I was not party to nor aware of any agreement.
I am not "bringing it up," but am reacting to the fact the matter is still being incited on the anti-part 15 website, and that's harmful to part 15 in general.
As long as people are attacking part 15 those of us who care about the hobby are obligated to defend it.
How is your new AMT5000?
I messed up the on-line order form and I haven't done it over yet. Thanks for reminding me. I will do it this week. Also, I also read the links and I don't think anything is being incited. In fact there was a recommendation to a newbie to purchase the AMT5000.
"... recommendation to a newbie to purchase the AMT5000."
Yes, that happened after I posted my essay on Positive and Negative Advertising.
The section I was concerned about happened in the time period June 4th to 9th.
Could it be that my beef sparked a change of tone?
I don't see anything wrong with Carl bringing up the subject again, as when I can look at the hobbybroadcaster site (it's 'forbidden' once again, at least to me, has been for the past week or so) they continue to attack the AMT5000 with the same old, same old - I never saw that recommendation. And, of course, they can do it in complete safety there (as opposed to some of the other boards), as the attacker controls the site and has already threatened to close off threads that contain responses he doesn't like. He also handles membership. If you want to be a member, then you have to write an essay that is approved by him. And if you already are a member there, then you'd better not disagree with him and his toadies, or else you likely won't be a member long.
The danger, of course, is that if some people continue to say bad things about that transmitter, no matter how incorrect or biased they are, then eventually it gets into common lore and others start to take it as the truth. That's why rebuttals are so important, even if they're made elsewhere. While the AMT5000 isn't for everybody, it has the potential to outperform anything on the market today, if tuned correctly.
p.s. The attack was, at one point, being carried on on yet another board. I started posting, responding to the attacks, the instigators pulled the same personal attacks and insults they do at hobbybroadcaster, and the moderator intervened, telling them to cool it. In a huff, they all left, and went back to hobbybroadcaster, since they didn't get their own way (and they could be as negative as they wanted there, as long as they agreed with the moderator, of course). Kudos to radio-talk (which is a great site for radio professionals, and also has a Forum for Community Radio including Part 15).

I have locked horns with him on many occasions. I don't ever remember writing an essay. And I beleive it was Neil who agreed that enough is enough on this subject.
You and I are going to disagree on this one.
This is far more than just a continued attack on the AMT5000. It's about a small group of individuals who are posting within the safety of a private Forum, and in doing so are tarnishing the image of Part 15. You don't see them posting the same things in other, more public Forums. Or, if they do, they quickly run back to their home turf when challenged.
I'd welcome a forthright discussion about what they are saying here, or elsewhere. They just won't do it.
Never begin a conversation with "You." It is combative in nature and indicates a lack of active listening.
Would it be better to open a conversation by saying, "We are going to disagree on this one"?
.
I'm not even going to bite on John's post. It has nothing to do with the thread. And it's an attempt to deflect the conversation away from a subject that is obviously uncomfortable to the poster.
Now, listening in general is right on topic. Forums that are 'open', such as this one and many others, encourage a diversity of opinions and if you want to participate, then you have to be willing to listen to opinions that may differ from your own. And it's your right to disagree. Moderators have to walk a fine line - to uphold the Forum rules (in particular, no personal attacks), while not throttling the flow of information.
Forums that are essentially 'private', and rigidly controlled by one moderator, don't encourage diversity and listening at all.
Things said in this thread make me think about the tolerance level of every participant, some who feel bruised by an exhange of words and decide to cut the tie and go away.
It is my view that this forum (part15.us) has the strength of being open to a diversity of views, and that's what a forum should be all about.
We are very fortunate to have Artisan Radio and John WDCX and Rich(F) and Rich(P) and Radio 8Z and MRAM 1500 and Bruce MICRO1700 and so many others.
Things flare up once in awhile, but that's human nature in a microcosm, and everyone should hold tight and come back tomorrow for another conversation.
Being too intolerant of the views of others comes close to being tyranical.
Disagree with me. It's o.k.
I work at a Benedictine institution. We are tolerant to the weaknesess of others.
If I understand you correctly you have said that others are weak but you can tolerate it as a man of strength.
Strength and weakness? Have no idea what that means.
