Yea the bleed is not that bad from the testing I have done. I did check on my SDR and it showed all was good. I am thinking of getting the Whole House FM and doing this test on it just not so sure if I really want to go FM due to all the noise and pirates out there. AM for me is cleaner so I guess I’ll see if I can get some sort of audience and grow on from there. Right now I am just online with a Facebook page :P. But for $7 and going .5 miles you can’t beat that. I will try to post some videos on YouTube with the test's I have done so it can be a better and visual understanding. But let me know what your results are 🙂 Also is 87.9 clean for you or do you pick up some stuff on it?

Thanks 🙂

87.9 is Blank here no bleed at all. If you get the Whole House FRM Transmitter 3.0 let me know what your results are too. May have to buy that from you if you don't like it but remember I'm on low income. I have a cheap cable I found as an extender I could use. It came with some headphones I had and if the range does hit the .5 mile mark I think I'd be happy as it would meet the SainSonic and not have the bleed or hum. Not bad for $7 if it really worked. Plus the price for a better extender cable. I could try and run it up the side of the window and see if I got listeners since this frequency is indeed clean. Plus I can use it as a low powered TX for playing my audio to my Radio or car stereo as well and that won't be bad either. Yes send me your tests to my Email address I sent you a message that you should have got. If not we'll figure something out.

Ok yea I will post those results also. I am not sure if I really want to get the Whole House 3.0 FM due to it being way over priced but I do look on eBay every now and then to see if I can get a good deal on one. I have used to use cheap AUX cables on my old FM car transmitter so I can fit my iPhone with my otter box case. Sadly those have bro from being used (Sometimes when I went to put my phone and transmitter into my car storage the cable will be hanging out so I think I broke the wires on the inside) and the current FM transmitter I use for my car has a built in aux cable that fits my case so no need to get a extended one. But from experience of me using it with my older FM it worked fine. Now I only have tested this with a car radio and my clock radio was able to pick it up everywhere in the house. I haven’t tested a normal radio outside. But so far as planned I will be doing some test with my AM transmitter that I will mainly use to broadcast my internet station 🙂

I finally got the antenna for my AM Transmitter outside and tied to a tree branch. It is not 100% vertical but I am getting a stronger signal to the end of the sidewalk which is about 300 Ft from the house. When I took the Grundig 450 out I got a pretty nice signal and at the end of the sidewalk I was right underneath a power line. I'd like to find out if I was able to cross the street how far it would have went till fade out but I'd want to walk with someone as I'm legally Blind. I bet it may go closer to ½ mile as I'm hoping to get a mile. Now with the new antenna if we can get that done it might get 2 miles. We'll have to try and get someone with a car Radio to actually try and get my station. It may or may not be getting out as far as my FM transmitter did.

Yea I would try it with a car radio unless you got the special radio equipment that is much better than a car radio :P. Do you use the Talking House Transmitter?

Thanks 🙂

Yes its the only AM TX I have which is teh Advanced TH 5.0 which came with the manual that said iAM.  Its not a bad transmitter but I've heard the Talking Sign and the Procaster does better.  I'd still like to hear the range you get.

Ok yea I will still test it out once it arrives. May I ask what antenna you use and when you use it does it still fall under the Part 15 requirements?

Thanks 🙂

I use the 10 Ft wire antenna that came with the unit. I opened my window and had my neighbor friend tie the wire to a branch and I closed the window. Now I have the antenna outside and it does very well. The Talking House is 100% part 15 certified and compliant and I've got to finish testing range but I thik I'll get ½ mile I hope. With the new antenna Station8 is working on I'd get closer to 2 miles.

I guess I can just hand the wire out my window then also 😀

Yea I would like to see that thing Station 8 is working on. If you are reading this Station 8 I am curious if this will still be under the Part 15 rules. I just want to make sure because if the FCC wants to take a visit I don’t want them asking how can I go 2 miles.

Thanks 🙂

The system he is working on is thicker and of copper but the most important thing is the ATU that tunes the antenna. It has to do with formulas and such but the antenna is actually a little shorter. It is not done yet and requires more testing and work but can't get done all at once. I'll be testing it hopefully if I don't have to find another place to live (Long Story). If I get another place I hope I can even get the antenna outside and see what that would do. Just a note The Talking Sign AM Transmitter has been known to go 2 miles and yes its legal. But again too it will depend on your area. Getting it away from obstructions is always a challenge as AM is far less forgiving than FM as far as that goes. Plus you have to keep in mind that most Radio's unless they are high end for in home use has extremely crappy AM receivers. My boombox was one prime example. This is why we need an AM initiative for more power as the FCC is looking on a scheme to re vitalize AM. This could be the time to open a few frequencies for extended power in the high section of the AM dial.

The Talking House/I AM ATU document is now on The ALPB website:

ATU INFO

On TheALPB.com you'll find the link on the "More Links" page, on the right side under "NEW".

Hang on, all the external ATU was the TalkingHouse's internal ATU literally stuffed into a little box and made manual?!

My TH 5.0 just came in today. I hooked it up to my PC and started to play some music and all I can say with the range is WOW!. It goes further than the FM test I did and with the FM I could start to hear stadic before it faded out. I went to the spot where the FM failed and it still kept going. I do see the song quality is not the best so if anyone knows how I can make it the best I can get it that will be great. I have it setup next to my window with the window open and the atenna hanging on with some tape on the bug screen of the window. I will be doing some test with this but once I do the full range test I think this transmitter might go as far as I need it to go 🙂

What kind of range are you getting so far?  Keep playing with it.  Tweak and test and you'll find the range gets better and better.

The fact that no Part 15 AM setup is truly plug-and-play is what makes this a true hobby!
