got my sstran amt5k back will test within next few days. will order a fiberglass nema case too for outdoor mounting. have the vertical shaft pots and rca jacks installed for mounting in nema case.
Good news kc9gpd.
What is your antenna like?
it will be hooked to a 3m stranded copper wire with pvc jacket and grounded to cable tv line shield with an 18" wire of the same and powered by a 3 prong grounded wall wart and fed by balanced audio. will be exactly what the rangemaster is hooked to now so i know tune up sstran to 1700 and set it 100mw and class e mode like instructions state.
i will have a good comparison between hamilton and sstran.
if the sstran performs better i may go to an air wound coil with a 1/2 inch dia 3 meter copper pipe.
nothing i do will increase range in my situation (will only see stronger signal fill in the weak areas if anything) i'm in apt and limited to indoor antennas and only temp outdoor antennas during night.
I'm back from vacation and just finished construction of my amt5000. Took 3 enjoyable sessions and was a piece of cake to assemble. Ahhh... the smell of solder after all those years. Fired up the first time - have RF and audio, so the next step is a dummy load and scope to see what's really coming out of it. I'll post results once I find time to do that.
Also received email notification today that my weatherproof case shipped, so it's all coming together. Looks as though I'll be on the air much sooner than expected.
I think I'm going to like this hobby.
Excellent RiversideRadio, you know the right way to build a professional kit.
I am so proud (as another AMT5000 owner and a true believer in sstran products) that everyone who has purchased a newly released AMT5000 has very good things to say about it.
Keep it happening!
