Folks,
Folks,
I'm considering slacking the spam filter's leash a bit, it too often growls at our regular users. Part of the problem I think is that we do use some technical terms that it may not understand all the time, so it is unsure and summons the captcha backup. Each time it does this though, it learns. And its not like it isn't effective; its been running for 472 days, and in that time has prevented 62055 spam posts from bothering us! Them some good numbers! But its a double-edged sword.. In the attempt to lessen the inconvenience of our regular members, I was planning on turning off the text analysis and captcha backup. In doing that, we may see some spam get through. Depending on the amount, we may need to 'hire' moderators.
Another option is to have users request themselves put into a role which will allow them to post without checking. This option may work better, but requires each user to be proactive and actually send me/mlr/scwis a request to be added to this role. I can also watch the logs and add users who seem to have issues posting comments, etc.

Dear madmage
My postings have been captcha'd maybe 1/4 of the time by your dog, but it isn't a problem filling in the little quiz since the answers are given, so I think things are fine.
Id Rather do a captcha then read 50 billion porn spam posts on here any day
Captcha while being mildly disruptive is worth the trouble.
Thanks for the input. I'll leave it as is for now, and if it does really bother anyone, email me and I'll put you into a group that bypasses the captcha checking
I haven't noticed the captcha thing coming up on my posts for a month. I thinks it's OK to leave it too.
