By the way, I should mention
that I'm still having computer
problems here. I finally got a
computer to use. It has so many
odd little problems that nobody
in my family wants it(!).
A true junker. Sometimes I think
an Abacus would work better. But
if I can get it to run another operating
system someday, I'll be happy. You guys
have already given me some advice on this.
I'll have to go back and look at it some more.
Bruce
Carl,
KDX is available on most smart phone apps that allow the user to type the stream url in manually.
Many times i have been out and wondered what members of Part 15.us were playing on their stations, i have listened to KDX and MRAM as well as KROCKS.
I only use my Android phone to record video, listen to streams and make calls when i am in an area that has free wifi. I can also record live audio through the phones microphone.
Every once in awhile, i strap the phone into a dash phone holder and record video of where i am driving to or from.
Other than that, i refuse to pay for phone service other than the house phone that uses MagicJack.
Rock95Seven you are saying things that have my attention.
I think you're saying that it's possible to own a little phone without having an account with a telephone company?
Doing things through free wi-fi sounds cool, smart, useful.
And a dash cam. Yes, I dash, along with everyone else, and I sometimes want a replay.
If you guys keep teaching me about these things I might need to update my lifestyle.
Bruce, we wish we could fix your computer. You shouldn't be having these troubles. Your daily life should be smooth sailing.
Are any part 15ers under 7-foot snow up there near Buffalo?
When seven feet of snow melt how many feet of water does it make?
Typically 1 foot of snow is about 1 inch of rain. So if it all melts at once, about 7 inches of water.
That could be a problem if it melts fast!
A news report last night said they are bringing in pumps from state-wide to anticipate over-flows and such.
Fast melting is probable because I think the temperature is going way up.
Geez, and I think northern California still needs about five years worth of water.
Instead of those messy dirty oil pipelines they need some water re-distribution pipelines.
While they're at it how about giant ducts to bring warm air up from the tropics during polar vortexting events.
From Reply #10 above: ... I can make Skype calls, watch YouTube videos, browse websites, record and play audio and video, pretty much everything I do on my PC.
Some vintages of Android-based Smartphones also have GPS capability, in which case Android apps can provide visual route maps + turn-by-turn driving instructions (aurally) to guide drivers from one place to another. Handy when needing to drive to a specific address in an unfamiliar area. They'll also show gas stations, restaurants, rest stops, motels etc along the way, with their contact info.
My favorite app for doing this is Waze, which is a free-to-use download from the Google Play Store.
If during a road trip your Smartphone stays connected via the data plan of the provider of your cell service, Waze will tell you in real time about current traffic conditions such as accidents and lane blockages that might affect your trip.
If you want to keep a record of your travels such as a bike or hike or even by car, "My Tracks" is a nice app.
Using the phones GPS capability the app will keep track of your route, speed, altitude, elapsed time even estimated calorie burn. It plots the route on a Google Map.
If hiking/biking and you get somewhat lost you can refer to the "My Tracks" plot of your route showing where you started and where you currently are located.
I don't use the cell providers data package (sharred with the XYL) so unless it's an emergency I wait till I have WIFI available. The data connection is needed only for the Google Map. The app, using the phones GPS, continues to collect the route info even when a data connection is not available.
It's FREE...
