Resort Radio 1700 Up-dates
Hello Everyone.
Seems there has been a lot of e-mails pouring through to me the last couple of days about the ebay sale of my station.... It has caused quite a ruckus in the broadcasting community and in general. Not only here in this area, but all over the country. I have had received many e-mails asking whats going on, and, the courious, plus the un-believers of what Part 15 stands for. Not to mention the people whom question the sale price, of such a station (meaning a Part 15)
WSJL/Resort radio started some 4 years ago, and it has become an "icon" of sorts within the Part 15 Community. Not necessarly the public. For reasons unknown, even with "coaching" to the local Government, Schools, and such, no one except a "hand full" has taken the "pull" to get behind the mic, even on a "Public Access" type of billing, such as I tried to advertise.
It started out good, with more then 11 members and active members at "The Station", and then, when WXXY FM, a Class A Non-commercial started to accept "people" to go on the air, each one of my members left me for WXXY. (except one) That lasted for a little while, and, eventually, WXXY changed formats, and the "Volunteers" has been discontinued, with a hand full still "active" in WXXY, behind the scene.
To this date, I have had *some" advertisemrnt activity, but, not enough to really support the station on it's own. All the expenses have been payed out by me, with a little help from my one and only member, whom chose NOT to go to WXXY.
I thought I would post the complete station, building and all (but not the tower) on eBay to see "what happens" If it sells, good, if not, I would continue with the station, and put in effect the "resort" idea, full force. If "Resort Radio" dosen't make income, that is to, charge a small feee, about 10.00 per month to the event people for listing their telephone number and or web site in the Resort report every two hours on the radio. This would surely earn an income of about 1000.00 per month, and the events would still be broadcasted, and they will get advertising for their money every hour, every day, for 30 days for a low, low price of 10.00 per month. This however, would be on a contract of a 3 year advertising "deal". Not bad, 120.00 of "shout" advertising, intermingled, with the "resort report" every 2 hours.
Not to mention to try to get the gas stations in the area to be "listed" in the gasoline report. Prices, and locations where to get the lowest, or the same price gas in the area. So far, no gasoline stations, corporations, or companies has contacted me for advertising, or sponcering the "Gasoline Report". It *might* take a LOT of "pushing" to the wheels to get ads for this.
I think it *could* work, however, with the "un-licensed" "Part 15" *ghosts* floating around the term: "Part 15", I discovered ingnorance, and caution from many people, business, and the public in general. This, is the greatest war that a Part 15 operator has to deal with. And as such, difficult to "sell" advertising to a business or advertiser whom know what Part 15 is.
So, if the station dosen't sell, and resort radio dosen't turn a profit by the middle of the summer next summer (05), then, surely, Resort radio will be shut down, and the equipment will be sold piece by piece.
If the station sells, then, I have other plans that I wish not to tell yet... That will depend on some other variables. I do not wish to say at this time.
I will post more as the events un-fold. The Gazette, a local newspaper, wants to do a story on the sale, and personally, if it sells, it most likely be the newspaper story that will sell the station.
Kind of a sad story, Bill. I'm sending you an email....

Radioboy,
Yes, I agree.... *kinda* a sad story. But, sometimes one must let go of something in order for something better to happen. What do I mean by that statment?.... Hopefully, I will be able to answer that fully, and completely later on as time progresses. Only time will tell. The station must sell in order for something better to happen.
Bill
The station has been re-listed. The reporter has been here, and if the article has not been bumped for another article, it will be in this weeks Cape May County Gazette. More, later.

Hello All, Again:
The Article has been released, and can be read on the eBay Auction. If someone wahts to, you can copy it and post it here on this site. I don;t have the spaqce to keep it available. After the auction, it will be removed from my web space, along with some of the pictures.
Bill B.
I know you like to keep your pictures "secured" to your own site. But I was wondering if we could use the eBay pics here? Just in case A) you station sells, or B) you lose them again ๐
Plus, we'd really like to have the station documented as one of the most complete Part 15'ers around.
Hello...
You can get the pictures from the sight itself. There are lots more pictures on the site. The auction has much less. Except, the pictures of the inside of the board, These are not on the resortradio web site.
FYI. My show "The Professor Nutmeg Show" is still in production, and still is in syndication. FREE, anyone whom has a Part15 qualifys to receive the show. Just ask. The show is available for downloading, on a passworded part of my web site. Your station is listed on the web site, with a link to your stations web site if you have one. It is a weekly show, a Dr. Demento clone (as someone stated). If anyone is interested, just ask, send me an e-mail.
In case of the stations sale. I have a shell of a Gates Board, with the pots and meters, and that will be the chassey of the next broadcast board.
