Sometimes there is an active stream we want to re-stream, and this can be done when we know an IP URL that looks like:
That is the stream from WCFI-LPFM Coyahoga Falls, Ohio, and I'm listening to it right now.
The way this is done is to add the URL to the playlist being used by the re-streaming station.
However, when streams are running on Flash Players the IP URL is unknown and there is not a way (known to us at this time) to add the Flash stream to the playlist.
Does anyone know the trick to finding the IP URL address from a Flash stream?
I've had some success by viewing the HTML code of the page which features the players. Sometimes the stream address is easy to find, sometimes it's really burried.
Here is a section of code from The ALPB Streaming page. This is the code for your Flash Player:
flashvars="file= http://24.178.243.236:8000/kdx64.mp3&volume=25&autostart=false&showstreamname=true&showstreamurl=true&showstreamtitle=true&height=20&width=220&showfsbutton=true&lightcolor=0x00FF00&backcolor=0x990000&frontcolor=0xECE9D8&overstretch=tru e" name="KDX WORLDROUND RADIO"
/>
</embed></p>
<p>KDX WORLDROUND RADIO in the Center of North America </p>
<p><embed
src="http://thealpb.com/flashplayer/player.swf" quality="high" align="middle" bgcolor="#000000" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
width="220"
height="20"
allowfullscreen="false"
The first line shows "flashvars" and the first thing you see is your stream address: http://24.178.243.236:8000/kdx64.mp3
From Rag-FM this code also shows the "flashvar":
A "copy and paste" of the address http://70.38.12.44:8564 into a player like WinAmp opens the stream.
The big secret in life is that you don't have to be smart, you just need to know smart people. I know Bob, and he knew this stream answer that I didn't know. See how it works?
Thank you Bob!
I was just listening to Bob absently hosting the morning shift at WCFI. He pre-records it all, the audience is none the wiser.
Another trick is to google the station name and then shoutcast. or station name plus shoutcast administrator. I got a lot of hidden URLs this way, including the unfiltered True Oldies Channel stream.
