While some have said that radio is dying, it has become the "in" thing to start a radio show.
Tim in Bovey launched the wonderful Oompah Hour, Ralph Nader started his Radio Hour, and I just read that retiring Congressman Mike Rogers is planning a radio show.
In fact, I've been wanting more talk and conversation for evening hours, and it's everywhere!
The smartest of all not only do a radio show, they also start their own part 15 station and join the ALPB!
First of all, I have to thank Carl for calling the Oompah Hour "wonderful". He's only heard show #1! But I have the next couple shows produced already and I think they have improved after the first seat of the pants flight.
I simply had a need that I could only fill by doing it myself. I'm glad to be putting my huge collection of polka and old time records to use, and meeting a programming need for people in my community, where old time music has a great following, and none on the radio! I think that's one of the best things about Part 15 radio. Being able to meet the specific needs of your immediate listening area who won't have their particular needs met by larger broadcasters who are striving to reach the largest audience and lowest common denominator at all times, and leaving out the smaller varied interests.
Thihs is the last week to download show #1. Show #2 uploads Sunday, and good Lord willing and the creek don't rise there should be a new show uploaded every Sunday for the following week. It's completely free if you'd like to air it, each show is roughly 55-59 minutes long and I try to get a good mix of nationalities and regional polka sounds (believe me, there are dozens of different "sounds" depending on where your polka music comes from, as well as the national orgin. ) The show is at:
