Those guys at Hobbybroadcaster sound like real pieces of work, geez. If it's the site owner doing it, then it's not a regular member they can put on probation or remove from the site. I sympathize with you too, there are people with power that just shouldn't be there, they seem to be out there just to make it hard for others. Ya gotta just think of them as corrupt. They've been hurt by someone in their lives, and now others are going to pay, is what it seems like. You have bosses who have it out for you, various kind of people in enforcement who have chips on their shoulders, and "godmods" on the net. Godmods are a scourge over all kinds of small groups online, but it doesn't usually matter since it's just trash talk that stays on the net and doesn't usually spill over into anything real.
As for RF Burns, I've seen him posting all over radio sites, or at least that name. You know what's going on more than I do with that guy, but there might be several RF Burns, just like there's more than one "Bill Clinton" posting on line.
You had 7 or 8 affilates running your programs, Wow! That's something to be proud of, seriously. I don't think I could EVER get that kind of support. Some of the stuff we run is so anti-establishment, non corporate and eclectic, the station probably offends, everyone, at least some of the time!
I've thought about this and involvement in the community, we're not just an empty canvas playing benign easy listening music, we're all painted up, with graffiti, and a few of those letter A's with circles around them. The local churches wouldn't want to get involved, something offensive to religious tastes could come on at any moment, even after their sermon. The same with the police, they have been questioned through the programming. Even oldies fans could be offended when we play rap. This station is for the people who live Underground, and those seem to be few and far between, seemingly not 7-8 affiliates worth in our listening range, perhaps none.
7-8 affiliates is achievement, success, and I could think your enemies are possibly jealous of your success? It's something to think about. Now, you could turn that around, use the energy you have to come up with a new plan. You have one-up, it seems to me that most stations slink away quietly when questioned, exposed, as if they are embarrassed or just want to give up and forget radio, they don't even defend themselves in the media. YOu haven't, so fire it up, accept the challenge and show those guys what you're made of Mr. Bruce!
You know, the whole time I hung out there, I believed in that jerk as being someone who did part 15 some good. I guessed wrong! He's a disgrace!
The trouble is, he spends too much time with kids, as per his often mention of 'his students' well I'm not one of his kids and I did not appreciate him sticking up for Ray F. Burns after I was called a pirate. I might want to put him and pedophile in the same sentence and see how he likes it!! I'm not a law braking pirate and did not appreciate being called one.
But, if being a pirate is what it is called because my voice was carried over a possibly over powered transmitter, perhaps he's also a pedophile being guilty of hanging out with under aged kids!
If my words here, piss him off, imagine how his pissed me off!!
I had nothing to hide, no one I know of used a transmitter with a power output he's claiming it put out. However, it was not my initial decision to end the station. It was the trouble Mr. FCC inspector wannabe caused that caused it's demise.
I didn't lie to the people who carried my studio feed, I explained to them that we had a trouble maker in western Connecticut named Bill who claims he was assisting an engineer named Tom Terrell who was acting on a complaint from a supposed radio station who heard about us from a few of it listeners. Okay, if that radio station was SO GREAT why were those people listening to our station in the first place????? Huh???
The word I got, was those people mentioned us because they asked why that station didn't do what we did! Do you hear a jealous radio station owner in the making here by any chance? Of course they were jealous of us. Wow! We stole, what? Maybe 10 possible listeners? Our facebook page had 51 members, however, we know a few of them were the rats that were looking to shut us down, because, when we did shut down, they left our page shortly afterwards. So they were simply there to troll our page, nothing more.
Anyways, as I said, I for one didn't lie to the people who operated those 8 transmitters, I told them we had trouble makers looking to have the FCC visit their homes and it could happen every time that station gets the itch to make complaint after complaint to get us off the air. Did they want to go through that? No one had anything to hide, but, would you want some dude from the FCC at your house 3 times a month going through your home and person stuff?
Long story short, I decided to shut the operation down by ending my feed and selling off my studio hardware. I sold my Ramsey FM100 to a ham operator last week. No more part 15 nothing! Baldy Bill can go pound sand!
If anyone ever wants to go after Mr. FCC wannabe in a legal proceeding, let me know, I'll be a witness for your cause.
The experiences reported by Mr Bruce fit the topic of "anarchy". His anger and frustration are understandable.
However, the point about this experience has been made and nothing is to be gained by continuing this part of the discussion.
Please let what has been posted suffice.
Neil
Agreed.
I join the call for letting the case rest.
MrBruce, thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Neil and the Part15.us Website, thank you for allowing MrBruce's testimony of a very traumatic experience remain available for viewing by the part 15 community, we have an interest in knowing what is taking place within this special hobby which we want to preserve and protect.
MrBruce, you were starting to repeat yourself, and that isn't necessary since you already posted your story which we can scroll back and read again.
A very important part of MrBruce's story has gotten lost because of his trouble with false accusations, and that is the great achievement of literally building a part 15 radio network with himself as the network program feed and his friends and associates as the part 15 relay stations to carry the programming to many areas. Only a very few others have done anything like it.
My encouragement to you, MrBruce, is to boldly rebuild your network because now you have the backing of part15.us and, I would expect, the ALPB (Association of Low Power Broadcasters).
Thank you everyone.
I would suggest that if you do decide to rebuild that network, Part 15 AM is the way to go (there's an ongoing discussion in another thread about this very topic). Part 15 FM just doesn't have the range. But with multiple AM transmitters, you can cover a very wide area. With the right programming, along with the appropriate advertising that you're there, it could work very well. TiminBovey's and others' (such as Ken Norris) demonstrate that there can be life on the AM band if you can deliver community-oriented programming.
Agreed. Now go repo your studio gear.
Okay, I still have a C-Quam AM stereo transmitter built by Chris Cuff. The output transistor he used is a VERY low output unidentifiable type. I have no clue what the intended output is supposed to be. I bought it off ebay already assembled, so I did not build it.
Hooked it up to a 150 foot wire just to test it and the distance was very limited to not more than 20 feet away using a 9 volt well filtered wall wart.
How does one post personal pictures in this site?
I'll open a new topic regarding this transmitter.
Bruce.
