well i have pretty much come to the conclusion yesterday that my deal is not going to happen and i have given up on that. seems lot's of promises very little action. I'm only going to run the AM and forgo the FM since the band is too packed here on FM.
so i am on to the next idea.
I have the following processing available to me....
CRL
SEP 800 and 400A
SMP 900 and SPF 300
Aphex
320D Compellor and Aural Exciter C2
Biamp 15 band stereo EQ
what combination do you think will yield the best sound.
what settings are recommended to start off with?
The Aphex chain was wonderful when I used it in a tape recording studio to transfer high quality master tapes from reels onto cassettes for distribution. The Compellor evened out the differences between soft and loud passages to bring the sound within the limited signal-to-noise ratio of cassettes, and the exciter was perfect for restoring upper harmonics often lost on the magnetic tape medium, and especially from older material like Old Time Radio.
I really wonder what the Compellor could do for AM..... I'll bet it could be wonderful.
My Compellor was Model 300, and the 320D appears to be exactly the same for analog work, but also has a digital (optional) input/output.
The multi-band equalizer might be good for playing with the "presence" range, which would be a boost at 2.5kHz or 3kHz (+3 to +5 dB)......
OR you could have a pre-emphasis type rise starting around 2kHz and going up to maybe 7kHz at +5 dB......
BUT if you have an AMT3000 using the built-in high frequency boost is perfect and you wouldn't need the outboard equalizer.
i have the 5000
I remember. You have the very 1st AMT5000 ever sent.
The same thing that I said still applies, the 5000 also has that great high-end boost option.
With the Compeller for level control plus the level controls on board the AMT5000 you should be able to get some very serious level processing!
