thinking of setting up a yahoo group just for political topics if i get enough of a response.
need to get at least 50 people to make it worth my time.
political topics will be along the lines of what little i have posted here but will be many more topics created that affect more than just part 15 radio related issues.
put "part 15 us politics" in subject line so i can easily sort them from my other email
also any suggestions on a more efficient and user friendly alternative to yahoo would be accepted as well.
I truly appreciate and admire the energy you have for coming up with new ideas and for spear heading discussions and new projects.
That is a great personal strength and I look forward to more of it in the future.
Good luck with the political site.
Maybe some of those tunes I linked to on the Free Material thread on Part15 would fit.
They are a little dated but still humorous.
"They are a little dated but still humorous."
You would be surprised at how popular "911 Was An Inside Job" still is.

Here we are sending kc8gpd off to start a new political discussion site, when the truth is, part 15 radio exists in a political world. This is only a thought, but maybe Robert should have his political discussions right here.
The word "politic" is based on a contraction of two words: "polite" and "ic".
Of course the word "ic" might be spelled "ick", as it was in Olde English, and is actually a response to the first word.
As we all know, politicians become very polite when they want your vote or your money, after which they block your e-mail and reject your phone calls.
So people say, "Polite? Ick!"
Yet if we could get a good politician on our side, we might be able to get the half-watt we all want so badly.
Half watt? Pfft! I say 10 watts and antenna system like that of a TIS station. It's been proven already for the last two decades plus that these setups cause no interference and coverage is highly localized, which is what we want anyway.
Turning blue yet?

Polite? Hope you're not serious ๐ Politics came from the word polity, Latin polita. Fr. politie, means 'organized government'. 'Course, it might as well mean 'disorganized government' these days ... ๐
I also agree with RFB ... if you're wanting a change, then why not 10 watts? It's not like there is a lineup for a huge growing network of AM stations anymore. If I had a daytimer at 10 watts, I could probably reach all of San Juan County instead of just tiny downtown Friday Harbor. I've checked ... there is no way it would interfere with any commercial AM stations on the frequency I'm currently using.
Plus, that's enough to generate listenable skywave at night isn't it? ... If we could get away with it.
Everything we read is not necessarily true, but I read somewhere that to get skywave there must be at least 20-Watts.
If that is true, it would be another argument in favor of 10-Watts, because in that case 10-Watts could never cause unwanted skywave.
Even 1 watt would be enough to give the big stations competition. If I could legally start a 10 or 20 watt station, I could easily reach Cincinnati! 2 miles (average maximum on 100 mW) times 100 or 200 would be 200-400 MILES!!!!!! Wait a minute. My math must be really flawed or something.
I have to admit, 400 miles would really be nice, but I don't think that's possible with 20 watts.
I've picked up a weak 700 WLW in Jellico, TN (200 miles away from Cincinnati) on a clear night. If a 50,000 watt superstation only comes in 200 miles away on skywave, there's zero chance my math's right.
I think I need to go to bed and recharge my brain.
I don't think this Forum is the correct place for political discussion, other than perhaps the FCC/Industry Canada and other like bodies and enforcement. All the more power for those who wish to do that, but I come here specifically for the Part 15 and equivalent discussions.
I was going to say that I am a "fence sitter," as far as whether or not to discuss politics on the part 15 site, but I am not sure there is a fence.
On the one hand Artisan Radio has a very valid point. I would be very comfortable if limited to technical and fcc topics.
The other side of the question comes up in relation to programming used by part 15 stations. I doubt that anyone would want to ban discussion of the formats and program material used by LP stations, and if programming is discussed, we tie into copyright issues, a politic topic, and of course program content such as banned words, something we have tackled.
Part 15 operation extends into many areas because a radio station is an outlet for discussion and ideas, and the more diverse it gets, the more difficult to restrict in terms of allowing or not allowing certain subjects.
Probably what we'll always have is this discussion, coming up from time to time.
i think regulation fixing to be put in place that would forbid the buying and selling of used equipment or where they can just snatch you off the street without rights to legal representation surely qualify and are and should be a worry of all whether in part 15 radio or not.
these would have a direct effect on what we do. if we can buy or sell used gear were basically out of business as far as getting equipment.
anything to do with IP is part of our mission here as this legislation would have a direct effect on part 15.
the reason for looking to start another site for political is for anyone interested in any kind of politics that could result in more loss of civil liberties and freedom not just the ones directly affecting part 15.
For myself, I'm not sure you can separate rule of law (FCC Title 47, Part 15) from politics.
Having said that, it took Prometheus (the LPFM non-profit organization) years of hard work with radio experts, politicians, and lawyers to come up with viable evaluations to present rule changes (third adjacent channel interference relaxed) which became law last year, and will hopefully result in many more LPFM stations to come on the air ... as soon as they iron out some difficulties and open a filing window (first one in a long time).
If we want changes in regulations, that's the kind of effort it will take to make it happen ... and I would certainly agree, it will take a separate forum specifically oriented to that goal. I could participate to a degree, but I can't operate the forum or spearhead the effort ... unless y'all want to supplant my income significantly in doing so ๐
