Some of my Part 15 friends have said they dream about finding the right place to operate a Part 15 radio station. This may be the place.
I'm surprised the State doesn't run them out or better yet capitalize on it and start charging for camping sites.
On this week's Mischke Roadshow as heard on KDX radio personality Tommy Mischke went to Slab City and drank wine with some of the inhabitants.
One of the oldtimers believes the state leaves it alone because so many outcasts and degenerates stay there so that big cities don't have to put up with them.
It's a place where Part 15 might seem ridiculous.
Well.. the FCC probally wouldn't care to go down there checking on radiating grounds..
I never heard of the place.. Just now I was reading a Time magazine article called: Slab City, Here We Come: Living Life Off the Grid in California's Badlands..
Excerpt:
"It's pretty much as close to the Old West as you're gonna get. Most of us don't own guns or none of that garbage, but if we have problems, we take care of [them]," says Ray, 56, a former drug addict turned born-again Christian who has traversed the country six times with a giant wooden cross on his back. Katie Ray, 30, a perennial visitor from Oakland, Calif., calls the place a "postapocalypic vacation zone."
