Sounds like you've got a great opportunity there, RFB - good luck. Was it your Part 15 activities or your obvious experience with licensed stations or both that tipped the balance in your favor? Or did you volunteer? Just wondering...

And Carl, there are simply negative people out there; I suspect they build themselves up by attempting to knock others down (or 'put things into perspective'). My experience with Artisan Radio has been that there are many more positive ones than negative, from both competing and non competing media. A success story for one person rubs off on others in the field.

"Is there something about part 15 not to like? We should find out."

How many wonders of the word are there now? There used to be the standard 7 wonders of the world. And later 8, 9, and more. I lost count.

But this thing about having an attitude against those operating under the Part 15 rules, is a BIG wonder. Why would anyone have anything against anybody operating within the law?

An interesting question to ponder. And such a question should be very easily answered. But applied to Part 15 radio...it is the most ELUSIVE answer ever!

Artisan asks good questions and makes important points.

I agree that most people are positive, and possibly the mass weakness of many is to be easily mis-lead by the negative.

The negative, unfortunately, have an edge. Most of the radio stations I have ever been involved with are spun in circles not by their positive response, but by the negative. Stations get very "pulled back", "take the cautious path", because of the fear of damage from negative complaint.

The FCC in America is "complaint driven". That means they are driven by negative reports.

I would doubt that the FCC or any other governing body pays attention to positive reports.

Send in the drones.

Hey RFB, that is an exciting project for you and I like most everyone here wish you the best of luck with the endeavour. At the very least, I am certain it is going to be a LOT of fun and that you will get less sleep for the next six months ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers!

Thanks AR! ๐Ÿ™‚

Actually it was a combination of both experience in past commercial FM builds, my 38+ years engineering experience, the programing experience, and us engineer types can turn rocks into transmitters! ๐Ÿ˜€

But I think this was not just because of me or my experience or that I had a system ready to go in less than 2 hours after the phone call on Thursday evening of last week. Many other things outside of K-Rocks all played a role in this development. I would say AR, that it was a combination of many things, to which it all boils down to being in the right place, at the right time.

Like being in the perfect position tossing up a marshmallow and capturing it in your mouth.

I don't know how else to explain it. Maybe the radio Gods finally heard my prayers after all these years of wanting my own Part 73 station.

I am still trying to wake up to the reality of it.

Today while visiting the old TX site on Radio Hill, we picked up the STA signal there too! And the signal is covering the entire city with a nice clean signal. Sure it "multi-paths" a little at intersections, but just inch forward a tad and you will get a clean reception! ๐Ÿ˜€

Thank you JP! Indeed, I have already gone through the lost sleep syndrome! LOL! I love it! ๐Ÿ˜€

More coffee please!

"Do you want coffee with that cup of sugar?!!"

By the way...Part15.us won't be left out. Because I intend to air Carl's program regularly and I believe that Part15.us is the focal point of everything we all would like to see on big radio.

Perhaps this right here is the epicenter, the starting line. I intend to bring it to the commercial radio realm. ๐Ÿ™‚

Great idea Lefty! In fact, last night while taking a breather, I was thinking of contacting you to see if you were still doing your program on your stations. I would certainly like to add yours too!

I will keep in touch about that! ๐Ÿ™‚

Haven't been on for a couple of days, so it was a pleasant surprise to read your news, RFB.

Wishing you all the best. This is great news. I hate reading where stations lose their licenses due to lost tower sites. It's happening all over these days, it seems.

Back when I was working at a 5kw AM daytimer on 1330, the Harris MW-5A transmitter totally died. I had a little LPB 30 watt carrier current transmitter at the time, so I enlisted the help of a radio colleague with better engineering knowledge than me to hook it up.

That little LPB box hooked to a 231 foot tower covered the town. I live 10 miles from the tower site and has a clear signal for most of the day. It did fade out earlier in the evening. Ran that way for a week or so.

The owner then hired a "professional" engineer, who blew up my LPB and failed to fix the Harris. We had to bring Harris folks in to get back on the air.

I'm all for doing what you have to do to keep stations on the air, and I applaud your efforts!

RFB, you might want to take
some photographs of this.

This is a piece of broadcast
history happening here.

Whether or not you want to share
the photographs with anybody (like us)
is one thing - but you should
definitely take them for yourself
so you can have memories of this
very special FM BCB set-up.

"Wishing you all the best."

Thank you radioboy! As this endeavor has only barely begun, it has made a huge impact on the local community, and only after just over 24 hours!

Today was a salvage day from the old tower site. Not much was left, but what little was left will help a lot.

I will indeed be very busy over the next few weeks, but I will make every attempt at keeping everyone updated on the progress.

Here's to a new era in radio! ๐Ÿ™‚

"RFB, you might want to take some photographs of this."

Hi Bruce! Yes I have been taking quite a lot of photographs for the history album. A few of them unfortunately are somewhat blurred as my digital camera decided it was the time to go south on me! What timing huh?!! ๐Ÿ˜€

I do plan to re-take those certain pictures with the new digital camera, one I have had sitting in it's original box, still shrink wrapped, never used...until now!

And of course, I will share them with everyone! Who am I to leave out anyone in this! My prospective is this....radio belongs to everyone, and everyone deserves to have a piece of the action, even if it is simply looking at photographs.

"Photographs and memories...." Umm..I forget the rest of the lyrics! ๐Ÿ˜€

Carl, I don't just look at the FCC, but life as a whole.

I've found that if you work hard, are honest and true to the goals that you believe in, and don't just talk but do something, positive things just naturally happen. I know there's a spiritual movement that believes in this effect (can't remember it's name just now) - personally, I don't think that there's anything metaphysical here, but that people and things just naturally gravitate to those who accomplish something in the right way. Negativity will always lose out in the end (although it may win some battles in the short term).

RFB has demonstrated this effect. Obviously, his interest and talent in Part 15 and community radio, combined with his actual experience in broadcasting, contributed to give him this opportunity. And I applaud him. Let's hope that there are more opportunities for others here in the future.

Thanks AR! I was talking to Lefty on the phone a bit ago and he is going to submit his program so I can air it on KMLD and K-Rocks.

And what was the past..is in the past. All is VERY good in the radio world!!! ๐Ÿ™‚
