Alright this is off topic, but I just have to gripe!
Alright this is off topic, but I just have to gripe!
A few weeks ago I won an auction for a uninterpretable power supply for about $10 and $18 shipping... about a week and a half later a refund was issued to me with no explanation.
I emailed the seller asking why, and they replied that the batteries died and they didn't want to send it since it was no longer "as described".
I know the real reason was that they expected more and higher bidders. That's all fine and good - bunch of bull, but that's ok.
So I bid on another, new - I was the only bidder again at 9.99 and 29.99 shipping... Well, this seller did ship it.. by mail. I assumed UPS delivery - It was delivered to the post office today, but it had my street address on it and not my PO Box (Many parts of the island do not have home delivery and must go to the post office for mail.
Well - it was returned to sender as undeliverable!
I emailed the seller and they tell me the shipping on it was more than they anticipated ($42.37), and they went ahead and paid the difference and in turn made nothing on the sale.
What I'm getting to is I already have $40 invested in this, and it appears the only way to get this item coming back to me is to pay another $42 return shipping!
Dammit!
Geeze, I would think the Post Office would simply hold the item until you could pick it up. They can't check the local map and see your address is valid? Living on an Island, how many people are there?
Yeah, you would think. The population of year round residents here is about 4,000. I tired calling thee main post office in Savannah to see if I could catch it but it goes straight to a fax machine, so tried calling the 1 800 number and offices are closed.
Tried to issue a redelivery online at USPS, but that gets me nowhere, it wont accept redelivery to PO's.
Tomorrow morning I'm going to the Tybee post office and see if they can get it turned around. If that's to no avail I'm just going to lose that $40 - (and I borrowed that money to be prepared for a lights out!), and eventually go buy a new one in town when I've have $100 or so to spare. -- Watch, before that happens the power will end up going out one day in the middle of a public broadcast! The very thing I want to be ready for.
This just sucks.
Same thing has happened to me here several times. Island life has its price. Amazon will not ship electronics devices to a P.O. Box.
Sometimes sellers say they will send UPS which has a contract agent here (Aeronautical Services), but for some inexplicable reason, ends up with FEDEX who does not, and I have to run them down when they get here (sometimes on foot, not good with my thrashed knees).
The trick is to go to the carriers and make good friends. Absolutely do NOT complain. Instead, take them to lunch, or do some other nice things, be bright and friendly, find things in common, do whatever it takes to get them to remember you fondly.
Also, track the package as if it contained rare gold coins. Do your best to tell when it's going to arrive on the island and be there (wherever 'there' is.
HTH ...
Well this could be the result of the move by the Postal Service to reduce their staff and office hours...as well as closing down some post offices.
Cut backs and all that.....perhaps they need a bail-out? 750 billion should do the trick.....oh wait....that got stolen by the banksters and gangsters thanks to the District of Criminals cast of characters.
It is sad to see what was once the best mail service in the world turn to nothing more than a back room run flip-flop address unknown shim sham.
It may be worth the slightly higher costs to have things shipped via UPS or Fed-Ex or DHL. At least they are privately owned shipping companies who actually care about customer service.

Oh, wait a minute, their out of business.
The part 15 version of a postal service would be to deliver in a four block area.
That's way too silly.

No not silly at all! Incredibly funny!!! That tops it all!!! ๐
