Excerpt - Why pay $20,000 for a commercial link to run your television station when a $10 kitchen wok from the Warehouse is just as effective?
This is exactly how North Otago's newest television station 45 South is transmitting its signal from its studio to the top of Cape Wanbrow, in a bid to keep costs down.
45 South volunteer Ken Jones designed the wok transmitter in his spare time last year when he wanted to provide wireless broadband to his Ardgowan home.
Or build another type using a colander!
Linky Dinky Note - lot's of graphics so the page is a slow loader...
Those links are great!

Short wavelengths sure make easy antennas
802.11 is 2.4 GHz, which I believe has a full wavelength of around 4 inches.
I think there are still some wireless speaker sets that use 900 mhz, which is a wavelength of around 13 inches. Better quality wireless speaker sets might even have a pre-emphasis circuit which might improve received audio quality. THe directional antenna retrofit might make the range useful.
With solar power and a wireless link for audio, a transmitter could be located almost anywhere...
Experimental broadcasting for a better tomorrow!
