NAB protects personal computers and 50KW blow torches and is afraid of LPFM. 250W translators OK. 250W LPFM not OK. In Tampa WFLA-AM placed a translator within thier AM coverage area. The reason: Block LPFM. You would think NAB would embrace LPFM to increase membership. I mean after all, a 3.5 to 5 mile radius is a BIG threat.
They get their panties in a wad over a small part 15 setup what makes anyone think they're not going to have a coronary over lpfm
In the past some have said that the NAB is "anti part 15," and if that's true, maybe their distraction now of going against LPFM upgrade will spare part 15 from being thought about for awhile.
The NAB position stated they have some LPFM members, yet they are opossing the LPFM upgrade? How does that make those members feel?
Concerning the FM translator for WFLA, might that not be simply to help nighttime coverage in that wicked null to the north?
AM is strugglin, any AM that values its future is getting an FM to help out.
But I don't really think so beacsue I live about 30 miles N of WFLA and nightime repection here is less but OK on both car and home radios. Remember, WFLA is CC/IHeart owned. WFLA's signal can be heard in Cuba also.
You can hear WFLA all the way to the Georgia line and even at night they do come in quite clear. Also there is a station in Florida on AM in Tampa WSUN and that station makes it all the way to mid Georgia as well. Good reason to bring back good AM receivers. Even low income people could have good Radio. Low income folks don't care about Mono or Stereo they just want good News and Music. AM does have a good use.
