either MLR / Rick, or JP Janze, or anyone who can help and is intimately familiar with ubuntu in a server application.
i've been at it for two days and i am now reaching hair pulling stage.
email real name forum username and phone#: [email protected]
i will call you back if you are in the US (i am not sure if verizon or t-mobile allows free unlimited calling to canada)
currently i am locked out of the desktop and it looks like i will have to reinstall from scratch.
Also might i suggest making a bootable live copy of ubuntu server on thumbdrive as it will offer help with problems like this in the future. Fixes for passwords, master boot records and operating system repairs can often be fixed using a live usb copy of most versions of ubuntu and other distros of Linux. It is also helpful for Windows users too.
Appendix 2. How to make a bootable usb flash
It will be at the bottom of the page.
Hope this helps.
what i'm trying to do is setup a fileserver for a home care company on their internal network.
The R.N.'s, C.N.A.'s, etc need access to a file folder holding template files for their paperwork while the admin needs a couple seperate secure file folders for sensitive paperwork without others than admin having access.
This link offers the relatively easy way to use Samba as a secure file server and works for both internet or intranet accessable files. I have found this works well for most situations that call for privacy or to protect sensitive documents.
There are much harder and long drawn out ways to do this but this option should do what your medical team is looking for . Good Luck.
after two days and 20 attempts i have got it reloaded and working, i now have to set up the samba file server.
