Micro-wave backhaul vs. signal boosters in a CC setup

I wish I had some more engineering background sources to find the best solution, but as yet I don't.

The question is this:

Which is best in a small town and a ways out of a small town using a Part 15 CC broadcasting setup:

1) Use a micro-wave backhaul to get synced signals from a base station to several separated CC couplers, or ...

2) Use some sort of amplification boosters to ramp up the CC signal where and when it begins to weaken below a certain point.

?? ... or in lieu of answers, the best sources for information.
