Carl, what the hey??
At the close of the fiscal year, 6/30/12, Terrestrial Broadcasting Service, Inc., owner / producer of The Low Power Hour, has decided to close the series...
The Low Power Hour was .. intended to promote the legal operation of personal radio stations under FCC Rules Part 15, which authorizes such activity.
Unfortunately a general decline in public interest in radio makes our quest far fetched....
Everyone now and then needs a vacation. Even if that means upsetting a status quo for awhile.
"And you know, the Enterprise will go along just fine without you"--Capt. Picard - STTNG - Best of Both Worlds.
RFB
Is that the SNG episode where Capt.
Picard gets reassigned to an espionage
mission and gets taken prisoner? And
he keeps yelling, "There are two lights!"
(Or is it 4 or 3 or...)
And Captain Geleko becomes the new
captain and puts the staff on triple
(or is it QUADRUPLE shifts) and Riker
gets all mad and uh... uh...
Or is that the wrong episode. I can't
remember.
AND NOW TO OTHER NEWS
The Low Power Hour Is Stopping?
WWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAATTTTT????????
WELL CRUD!
But then again. Even Carl needs a rest after
all of that work.
Bruce, DRS2
With the LPH taking a well deserved
rest, where is Carl's staff now???
Morgan Ford is working at a used car
lot in Bayonne, New Jersey. He is
selling Chevys. He has a side job
working at a 700 miliwatt LPFM
station in Portland, Maine. (What a
commute!) What Carl doesn't know
is that Morgan Ford took the KDX
car. And it's OUT OF GAS and Morgan
is not near a gas station.
Phlotilla is in Seattle Washington
attempting to do traffic reports for
KIRO - the 50,000 watt station on 710 AM
out there. She is attempting to use the
Space Needle as a launch point for the
KDX traffic glider. She plans to fly
back to the St. Louis area and give it
back to Carl. So there will be just one
traffic report. And it will be a one
way trip. She had opened her own Peanut
Butter and Jelly on a Ritz cracker stand
down on the street level in downtown Seattle.
However, it was sucked up by a moving sinkhole.
Phlotilla was spared from harm because she
was at the local convenience store buying
Ritz crackers - because she had run out of
them.
Stay tuned for more
Where are they now now now now (echo echo echo)
Bruce, DRS2
AND I WAS VERY INTERESTED!!!!!!!!! Enough caps. But I found the LPH to be very interesting and I was looking forward to the next episode, which is obviously not going to happen now. I wish you would reconsider your decision to pull the plug on the Low Power Hour.
"Is that the SNG episode where Capt. Picard gets reassigned to an espionage mission and gets taken prisoner?"
Actually the one your describing is titled "Chain of Command", a two part episode that like other two part episodes, the first part would be the "cliff hanger" episode at the end of a season, and the 2nd part would be the conclusion. The episode I took the quote from is also a two part episode, a very famous one.
The quote I posted is from the two part episode that ended season 3 and began season 4. It was the catalyst episode that helped develop other episodes in STTNG and in other series such as DS9 and Voyager.
The episode is called "Best of Both Worlds", and is the episode where Capt. Picard is kidnapped by the Borg, transformed into a Borg and is used unwillingly to attack the Federation. The "big battle" of that episode was at Wolf 359 where a fleet of 40 starships were all destroyed. This battle at Wolf 359 is where Capt. Sisko of DS9 was assigned to the USS Saratoga as tactical officer and we get to see him on board the Saratoga fighting the Borg with the other ships in the first episode of DS9.
Getting back to the quote, it is where Picard is trying to convince Riker to re-think his decision that he is hurting his career by "staying put" on the Enterprise and passing up command offers. In this episode he was offered the USS Melborne, the very same ship that "JB", the admiral had arrived on when meeting up with the Enterprise to plan the defense. Unfortunately, the USS Melborne, along with 39 other starships, was destroyed at the battle of Wolf 359. Riker prevented his own demise by refusing to accept the command of the USS Melborne. The USS Melborne was an Excelsior class ship.
But for awhile at least, Riker did get what he always wanted, to be officially the captain of the Enterprise D, though it was only for a short time.

Carl, your Low Power Hour show has been very inspirational.
I envy your ability to bring to us your witty, sometimes rambling dialog filled with spontaneous humor and the interviews of other radio enthusiasts.
Perhaps most average people couldn't care less as to why the sound comes out of the box. WE are your audience. WE suck up every show you produce. WE will miss it.
If you're in it as a money making venture then you are probably justified to pull the show. Percentage wise, WE are a very small, select group.
But, if you're in it for the personal satisfaction of knowing that WE enjoy it, that WE can be part of it, please reconsider.
This has been a wonderful thread in support of
the Low Power Hour.
And thanks RFB!
I don't know why I was so confused. It must just
be because it's been a while since I've seen it.
I love Best Of Both Worlds.
Man! You are really good with SNG stuff! Good for you!
Bruce, DRS2
P.S. I thought the very first scene in the first DS9 episode
were Sisko and his son Jake have to leave the Saratoga
is quite chilling. One of the best scenes I've watched
on any TV show.
Carl, come back...we need your perspective.
If you think about it, why do you care, what the 99.999% of the people who listen to what is laughingly called radio and music these days, think?
There ARE people out there who are looking for alternative programming. If you're enjoying what you're doing, then reaching some of them is a bonus. But the key is to enjoy what you're doing - if you're not, well, that's a different matter.
It's difficult to say how many people tune in to Artisan Radio's broadcasts, but we can certainly track Internet use. We get 400-500 listener connections a day on average - they're not all unique users, some get disconnected and then reconnect, others listen several times a day. I really need to sit down and write that program to analyze my server logs. I've seen, at times, up to 60 simultaneous listeners.
And they're from all over the world - Australia, South Asia, Europe, as well as throughout North America.
Certainly not up there with the big boys. But it does show that there is a potential audience. They just have to find you.
If you go to the LPH page on kdxradio.com, it looks like Carl has reconsidered his decision!!!!!!! The Low Power Hour is back!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to hear LPH #38!
Thanks Carl, for bringing it back!
THANKS FOR BRINGING IT BACK!!!!!!!!

Yes, I am very happy to learn that Carl has decided to continue the Low Power Hour.
Please listen to Blare On Air July 13th "Dirth". I believe this episode sheds much light upon Carl's "discouragement" and underlying reasons for such and subsequent withdrawal.
An eye opener.
Oh Thank God it's coming back!
