I am looking into buying a SStran Transmitter. I want to get the Base-Loaded Vertical Antenna so I can broadcast farther but, I don't know how to build it. I looked at the constution plan for it but, it is to advance for me to build. Is there a place that sells a already built Base-Loaded Vertical Antenna for the SStran that I can buy.
If you look down the bottom of that section on antennas, below the modification paragraph, you'll see a link to Carl's page where you can purchase various antenna parts, mainly the coil.
He can help with your needs.
Carl posted a notice on another board that he is not going to make the coils and antenna kits anymore. At the time of the notice a few weeks ago, he had only four coils left. If you can get one, they are very good quality.
The coil is not really that difficult to make, and I would advise you to reconsider making your own if you cannot buy one. The plans look daunting at first, but if you take the list of parts with you to your local hardware or building supply store, you can get almost everything you need very inexpensively.
Yep, I've seen his coils and they certainly are nice.
"if you take the list of parts with you to your local hardware or building supply store, you can get almost everything you need very inexpensively."
Lacquer-insulated copper wire in lengths required to make coils this size are harder to come by. I'd have to order from the internet and end up with more than I want. If you are in a big enough city there may be outlets, but you're not likely to find much longer than 25 ft in the picture-hanging hardware dept. of an ACE store.
So, taking Ermi's advice from awhile back about separating the turns, I used vinyl-jacketed wire, which has worked well for me, albeit it a bit longer on the form.
I used very light coat of spray cement on the form to keep the turns in place while winding.
HTH ...
If anyone needs one, I have a spare coil from Carl, never used outside, that I will sell.
Hey Evan ... there ya go!
Say .... out of curiosity, how much? You can contact me offlist. I don't have the shop I once had, but I might consider building and testing coils for others. I actually like making them.
Gentlemen; I have been contacted by an interested party through the contact form. In case he is not interested, please feel free to contact me using the form if you want to be "in line" and I'll provide further details.
I am not interested in making any money on it; I don't need it now since I bought a Rangemaster and I'm just going to let it go for about what I paid for it, so someone else can get some use out of it.
