little add on thingies
Hey - anyone have any good "How To" guides for things like ON AIR light up signs, automatice switching systems (for doing stuff like turning off studio monitors and fans and stuff)?
and all the other things I have not thought of ๐
Normally, the on-air lights, speaker mute, and such is done with relays inside the console. Typically the first and second mixer channels are wired to trip the relays when the mikes are opened.
Jack could probably design a mike switch system that also trips relays to light your on-air lights, etc. The switch could be outboard from the mixer or possibly added to the mike switch on the mixer.
the on air console I'm putting in actually does do this - but I'm thinking more along the lines of the actual on air light (building a small box, getting the plexi, spray painting the inside, etc..)
and for folks who have stuff like the radio shack mixer - there ought to be a way (external box) that can do the auton off/on things.. ๐
Just some thoughts..
For the on-air sign, you could use an aluminum box like you'd get at an electronics store. Then cut open one end for the sign, then mount a piece of plexiglas. I'd probably use stick-on letters or stencils for the 'on-air' indicator. I'm not sure how much voltage you're going to use, so I'm not sure what to suggest for the light.
