I'm so noob I'm not even there yet.

I'm so noob I'm not even there yet.

I just want a simple transmitter, so I can listen to my music through FM over most of my one acre homestead. I'd like to drive it with my computer's soundcard headphone or line out jack, and not mess with batteries.

In my googling, I've only seen low-power in-car systems for ipods. Any recommendations?

Appreciate the quick reply! Not exactly what I had in mind, as I'm running Linux on all my machines. I'll have to find out if it's supported, or if those guys have something similar with no software required.

If I could get it to work, it certainly would cover the area I have (with a addon antenna and power supply).

C. Crane puts out a transmitter that should fit your needs. Here's the link: http://www.ccrane.com/radios/fm-transmitters/fm-transmitter.aspx . Take the soundcard output and plug it into the transmitter, then "rawk-on" (or whatever your music tastes might be.)

That's nice! At that price if I don't get full coverage I could afford two -- one for each side of the house.

Doesn't say if it's stereo, though that's not a deal breaker.

It is stereo and has great audio quality (especially for that price). I like mine a lot.

You will find P15 compliant range is limited, especially if you are trying to get "through" your house and walls, pipes, etc. will cut down range very quickly. Place it by the window and you should get accross the yard. Theoretically 200 feet is a reasonable guess (not a promise) at best range over open, unobstructed space.

The CCrane does have much better range than some of the devices that are meant to get your mp3 player to your car's FM radio, like the Belkin and others.
