Good question MrBruce.

Some days I am only streaming directly from my website at kdxradio(dot)com, other days my three streams go public and are listed at the Shoutcast Director (shoutcast(dot)com).

When I run the Icecast Server I show up on the Icecast Directory.

To my knowledge I am not on any other directories.

Or, if any directories list my station they don't have my permission.

Say, this makes me think of somthing else....

As we hear there are hundreds-of-thousands of streaming radio stations but I wonder if many of them get double counted... for example with MrBruce on so many directories does each listing get counted as a different radio station?

My three streams are all the same station with the same programming, just different bandwidths and formats... do I get counted as three separate stations?

Barry, you have your "host" setting in the Icecast.xml config file set to "locahost" which is keeping it from appearing at the Icecast Directory.

Here's what I think you should do:

<!-- This is the hostname other people will use to connect to your server.
It affects mainly the urls generated by Icecast for playlists and yp
listings. You MUST configure it properly for YP listings to work!
    -->
    <hostname>thefreeproject.no-ip.org/</hostname>

That is the section of the config file with the recommended change.

The Icecast Directory is

What you have to do is go to different sites that list radio stations, look for a link or button that says submit a station, fill in all the required information including a station logo and description of your station, where you are, what you play, then submit it.

Move onto another site and repeat last instructions.

Nobex will create free apps and publish them in the app store.

Besides the over seas sites, most I submitted my station's stream URL to which is:

http://s25.myradiostream.com:9672/

I use SHOUTCAST

Go to radiotuna.com do a submission

Go to Tunein.com do a submission

Go to radio.net do a submission

Keep checking sites for options to submit a station, then submit yours.

Eventually other sites automatically add your station.

There are links on line that explain how to add yourself to popular sites, some sites require a little work to get added, such as submitting a downloadable form and answering questions then emailing it to the email address provided, but it is worth it if they add you.

I am adding a link here, this is how I got started. The links on this page are the ones you want to click on and follow the instructions for being added to each site listed at the link below, please click on the link below and scroll down to read the blog:

https://radio.co/blog/internet-radio-directories-submit-promote/

Best of luck and pass it on!!

By the way I am also listed on delicast.com but there is no direct link I can post here.

I also still need to submit to a few other sites listed at the link above, I haven't submitted to them all as of yet. Working on it.

Bruce.

Myradiostream direct link does not allow you to be listed on a lof of site like Shoutcast or Radiotuna.  I use to be with listen2myradio my stream was not listed on shoutcast but I could be listed anywhere else.  I got a cheap shoutcat server 100 slots at 160kpbs now my stream is listed on the shoutcast site.

I do pay a premium for my server, $5.99 per month! You can't go wrong with that!

200 listeners, 192K bitrate for that price.

250 listeners 256K bitrate for $5.99 not bad.

Like how they refer to the packages as different stages of a person's life cycle LOL!

Carl brought up an interesting question, SoundExchange counts each stream as  different station. For example I have an mp3 and aac stream for my station, identical talk programming on each feed fed by the same AM radio, however if I played music I would have to pay royalties for both as if they were unrelated and carried different programming.

Rained in by daylong showers the time is right for learning how to configure an Icecast Stream so it will show up on both Shoutcast and Icecast directories.

A very smart engineer told me it is possible for Icecast Servers to reach both directories. He was wearing a mask and rode toward the sunset.

Up until now I've had to run two servers to reach the two directories... a Shoutcast server and an Icecast server.

I will report anything that gets learned.

In Post # 5 up above I may have given the wrong advice for setting the "Host" section of the Icecast Config File, except that "localhost" I know will not work outside of the LAN.

Read this instruction from the "Settings Guide" on the Icecast website:

Host -

This is the DNS name (or IP address) that will be used for the stream directory lookups or possibily the playlist generation if a Host header is not provided. This should be something that your listeners can use.
Note: This should not be the URL of your stream's website or so, but the hostname for this Icecast server!

Darn. It doesn't explain how to determine what the host name is for the Icecast server. In fact, upon reflection, the instruction seems contradictory.

Can anyone explain it?
