I am really interested in radio, and have been for awhild (I'm currently 16). After reading this website for awhile I decided I wanted to skip ahead a little, and move on to commercial radio. We had to do a job shadow for a class at my school, and of course I went to the local radio station (big Country 103.1, KQ92, KKMI, and Hot 97-3). When I was done for the day I got a job offer to do weekend evenings on Big Country!! Of course I accepted. This was in April of '08. Fast-forward to 2 weeks ago. The afternoons guy on Hot 97-3 (the Top 40 station) had just quit and they needed someone to do it, so I got a live 5 hour Mon-Sat show for two weeks until they found a replacement. Once they got the replacement they moved me to early mornings on Hot (12AM-6AM). I lead into Kidd Kraddick In The Mornings now, and also still do the weekend shift on Big Country.
Just wanted to let everyone know that you inspired me to go into radio and now i'm on 7 days a week...

I don't know if I should congratulate you or shut down the site in shame - radio joke!
But seriously, great news - drop in once in a while and let us know how you're doing.
I'll be watching for you on Radio and Records - something like "Lil' Matt goes BIG" 🙂

Thanks for the welcome... getting ready to go live in just about 3 hrs. (It's show prep time.. Woop Woop!).

You are off to an unbelievably strong start in professional radio!! It's a privilege to say "job well done". If you find the time, maybe you can share some of your experiences here. It would be great to follow your progress. Take care,
gronsk
The station is letting me do my first live remote this October!!! We're doing a thing where we travel to local high schools and broadcast live before/after football games. They are letting me be the one to do my high school's homecoming game!
Just thought I'd let you all know!

Great gig!

I hope you enjoy the job at the rado stations. That is quite an accomplishment to work at two stations at the age of 16. I first got started in part 15 radio two years ago, and at one time had my own community radio station (until the transmitter and antenna failed.) I'm now 17 and tried to get a job at the 3 stations in the nearby town. Two, which were in the same building, wasn't hiring. The other one, I filled out a job application, and I was told I would get a call in a few days. 6 weeks later, no call:) Keep up the good work, you'll go far. Who knows, I may see a topic about you on radio-info.

I gave up on doing a Part 15 station, but I've decided to do a web streaming station. The link for now is: mms://12.203.119.213:1538
I use mAirList for automation and Station Playlist Creator Standard to schedule.
Let me know what you think!!
